Of the various initiatives to come out of COP29, this one caught our eye... A $1bn scheme announced by Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate), and being executed by the UAE and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to bring access to weather data to farmers in low-middle income areas - such as parts of Africa, LATAM and Asia ☀️🌦️☂️ With the vast majority of the world's farmers still operating small-hold operations, often 'off grid', a current concern is that agritech is not reaching this huge chunk of the agriculture sector effectively. How can tech and data positively impact those out of signal areas and unable to afford tech expenditure? As with most things to come out of COP, there will be doubts and reservations around this - how to funnel the money for example (current plans are that it will go to the various country Governments involved, bringing it's own challenges) - but overcoming the challenge of how agtech can reach developing parts of the world needs to be a priority so it's encouraging to see an intitiative like this being attemped!
