It accounts for approximately 10% of global carbon emissions and is the second-largest consumer of water worldwide. The production processes often involve toxic dyes and chemicals that pollute our water sources, affecting local ecosystems and communities. (UNEP-WCMC, World Resources Institute) 🚮 Waste Accumulation: In the UK, around 300,000 tonnes of textile waste end up in landfills every year, contributing to overflowing waste and increasing pollution. Many textiles can take decades to decompose, releasing harmful substances into the soil and water. (WRAP) 🌳 Resource Depletion: The fast fashion model relies on cheap, disposable clothing, leading to the over-extraction of resources like cotton and petroleum (for synthetic fabrics). This not only depletes our planet’s resources but also contributes to habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity. We’re excited to welcome Katarzyna Gibson to the ABS team! With over five years of experience in biology and cosmetic science, Katarzyna brings extensive expertise in product development, formulation, and quality control. She’s eager to jump into new formulation experiments, combining her passion for microbiology and cosmetics to develop innovative, eco-friendly solutions.   Outside of work, Katarzyna teaches pole fitness, enjoys crocheting, and loves spending time with her dog, Kevin. She’s particularly passionate about the future of sustainable products and hopes to see eco-friendly solutions become the industry standard, replacing harsh chemicals.   In her words: "I hope for a future where you don’t have to be knowledgeable in chemistry and current regulatory laws to choose products that won’t contribute to pollution (and aren’t greenwashing), because those products will be the norm. I also look forward to the day when big corporations take real steps to reduce pollution—following the lead of companies like ABS, who are already making a difference."   Katarzyna lives by her own interpretation of a quote from a Polish historical comedy, Maiden’s Vows (Śluby Panieńskie): "Boldness before happiness, as happiness before glory"—meaning sometimes you need to be brave to find happiness, and happiness is the best path to success.   We couldn’t agree more!
