In our last webinar of 2024, we discussed Leading with Empathy in a time of Machines with Susan Ní Chríodáin. Machines are tools. It's important how we transact with them, and how we interact with humans. Bringing your 'whole self' to work: the full picture includes your body that breathes, the heart that beats, there is intelligence in your heart, and your gut feeling, not just your brain. Bringing your 'whole self' to work is about leveraging your whole set of intelligence. Having access to this 'whole self' provides confidence to speak up and share your opinion. However, it's not always on you to bring yourself, you do need to be in an environment where you feel safe to remove the masks, remove the walls, remove the fear, and implement those elements of joy and balance of emotions. Context matters: the version of you with family will be different to in the office, however, you can always bring your full self. And, yes there is a transaction in the workplace, however, that doesn't mean you can't be Human. Emotional Intelligence is needed to balance out the machine elements. Self awareness leads to more understanding of others, which leads to better interactions. So, let's change the narrative from "soft skills" and use "essential skills" instead. Communication: think about how others may interpret your communication style. Create a space for others to speak in a way that they are comfortable to do so, and check for understanding. Digitisation: it's not a generational thing, it comes down to attitude. Mindset and culture have to be considered in the workplace by onboarding everyone equally, and making sure a growth mindset is encouraged. Some people respond better to change than others. Those who excel focus on the benefits of the change, showing it's worthwhile to potentially feel uncomfortable and be patient. The role of technology over the years has always been to make what humans do more efficient. It's freed us up to be more ambitious, collaborative and creative. We have to remember that it's a tool to help us, not hinder us. For example, fraud is on the rise. Technology can help, but don't be reliant on it, always include the Human element - keep checking the controls and processes. Empathy is like any skill to learn. It's again about mindset and willingness to learn. It's possible because you can learn throughout the rest of your life. Simply ask "Can I take someone else's perspective?" Be open to understand, instead of making assumptions, and ask them to explain. There are always reasons why we behave the way we behave. Give the person the benefit of the doubt. Trust, Empathy and Emotional Intelligence go hand in hand. Each one naturally grows the other. Know that you are not alone in living the human experience. Reach out to others. Thank you to everyone for joining us on our webinars and other activities this year. We look forward to seeing you next year! Watch the recap for the full run down >>> https://lnkd.in/deKzbG8

We're so pleased to welcome our friends and partners at Esker UK & Northern Europe back to our Purchase to Pay Network community for 2025! We can't wait to introduce our Network to the fabulous Esker team next year, and you won't have long to wait! Make sure you save the date and join us for our second webinar of the year on 25th February. The drive for the team as Esker is to free up Finance, Procurement and Customer Service professionals from some of those more time-consuming tasks, helping teams to be more efficient, and creates the right environment for them to develop new skills. At the same time, Esker helps to improve relationships between customers and suppliers, while allowing them to maintain their ERP independence, as Esker's cloud platform integrates with existing ERP environments, giving businesses the flexibility to connect with any system without having to change the way they work. As well as meeting the team virtually in February, you can meet them in person at our 11th Annual P2P Transformation Summit on 3rd June, where Esker will be joining us as Network Partners. We can't wait! 🤝 In the meantime, find out more about Esker here >>> https://lnkd.in/d4_Yag9R #Partners #Network #Community #Finance #P2P #Procurement

2024 has been a year of milestones! 🚀 We kicked off the year with a celebration of 15 years of our Network! Back in those early days we were known as AP News and were the first community in the UK to support accounts payable as a profession. Since those early days, the community has grown to support the wider finance function, end-to-end P2P and procurement as well as Accounts Payable. Then we made the announcement that Major Tim Peake was going to be the keynote speaker for our next approaching milestone - the 10th Anniversary of our P2P Transformation Summit event! And we were delighted to have our friends and partners at Tradeshift alongside us introducing, and Headlining our main event of the year. #P2PTransform24 #P2PTransform25 #Partners #Community #Friends
