Sustainability Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag & Holiday Handcraft Workshop   As the holiday season approaches, we're thrilled to share the journey of our Cabin Crew Uniform Upcycling & Recycling Project, culminating in the launch of the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag”. This year, we also hosted a handcraft workshop with The Zubin Foundation, where over 20 children and their parents from ethnic minority families adorned the upcycled crossbody bags, embracing creativity and community spirit. Apart from the handcrafted workshop, our pilot and cabin crew members also shared their working lives in the aviation world, and invited The Billie Upcycling to explain the process and importance of #upcycling to the participants.    As a Hong Kong-based airline, we are committed to giving back to the community. This project promotes the local circular economy and strengthens our connection with the Tung Chung community, making the holiday season more meaningful. We've successfully recycled and upcycled 80% of approximately 3,000 old cabin crew uniforms into products like Berry the Teddy Bear, Travel Pouch, Christmas Socks, and this year's crossbody bag in two years.    As we wrap up this year, we look forward to continuing our journey towards sustainability and inspiring creativity within our community! 🎄♻️    The limited edition “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag” is now exclusively available on Cathay Shop: https://lnkd.in/gw9kQufb ! #HKExpress #香港快運 #GottaGo #LiveMore #HolidayWorkshop #CommunityEngagement #Sustainability #CircularEconomy

  • 【𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐱 𝐊𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐠】   For some ethnic minority children, neither Chinese nor English is their first or second language, making it hard for them to catch up with the curriculum in Hong Kong. This language barrier can at times demotivate ethnic minority children, who lose their interest to learn.   The kids storytelling sessions at Zubin’s Family Centre is an initiative to increase an ethnic minority child’s interest in learning Chinese and English. Through bilingual storytelling and interactive exercises, the children improve their language proficiency, communication skills and interest in reading. To make the storytelling fun, our volunteers use props and voice modulation. Last month, as a part of the Adventure Week, some students from the Korean International School, volunteered a day to choose stories and hand craft suitable props for our volunteers to use.   "It gave our students great pleasure and a sense of agency to pick out the stories they thought the ethnic minority children would enjoy. They were passionate in discussing what props would go best with their chosen stories and they were then able to unleash their creativity in designing and making the props. A very meaningful and creatively satisfying few hours that they knew would be genuinely useful and appreciated,” said Ms. Sonia Borthakur, Deputy Head of Secondary (Academics).   If your school also wants to support the work we do, feel free to reach out to The Zubin Foundation for further discussion.   • Ways to Partner: https://lnkd.in/dF2GYxgX • About Our Work: https://lnkd.in/gRs2xm2k #TZF4EM #TheZubinFoundation #Opportunity #EM #EthnicMinorities #EMinHK #RacialEqualityHK #少數族裔 #非華語 #Empowerment #Partnerships Shalini Mahtani Matthew Yu Vinee Kapoor Vibha Karnik

  • [𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑺𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏]   We work with Hong Kong’s low-income ethnic minority women. Many of them have multiple children and uphold overwhelming family responsibilities. This contributes to their distress and many feel lonely.   Exploring the local community and building social networks are essential for their well-being, but they often hesitate to engage because of different personal, family and cultural reasons. In addition, limited access to resources restricts their ability to upskill, fostering self-doubt and impeding their personal growth.    The weekly Chai Gathering at Zubin’s Family Centre provides a platform for the ethnic minority women:   🔹  to build meaningful friendships, 🔹  participate in the community and 🔹  learn new skills.   It is a reason for them to step out of their homes, and take part in activities like learning basic Cantonese, making traditional Chinese snacks and physical well-being sessions.   𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 $𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴’𝘀 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻.   Donate Now: https://lnkd.in/eYf5aiDf To become a part of our mission or discover how you can be an ally, reach out to The Zubin Foundation.   • Ways to Partner: https://lnkd.in/dF2GYxgX • About Our Work: https://lnkd.in/gRs2xm2k   #Donate #TZF4EM #TheZubinFoundation #Opportunity #EM #EthnicMinorities #EMinHK #RacialEqualityHK #少數族裔#非華語#Empowerment

  • Today (10 December) marks 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 - fostering greater peace, equality, and sustainability. To achieve this goal, more has to be done since some ethnic minorities in Hong Kong are overlooked and their rights may be compromised. Holding similar values to the UN, The Zubin Foundation is making efforts to safeguard the rights of this marginalised community in Hong Kong: ◩ 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞   In a forced marriage, one or both parties, who may be female or male, may be subject to physical, emotional or financial pressure to marry. It is absolutely a violation of human rights. However, not a lot of awareness may be given under the misconception that forced marriage does not happen in Hong Kong. To help those who suffer speak up for themselves, we launched the “Time to UnMute | Understanding Forced Marriage in Hong Kong” report and curated the “Hong Kong Forced Marriage Assistance List for Victims and Their Friends” this year. For more details, please visit https://lnkd.in/gB-pRG4Z. ◩ 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐄𝐍 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧  We believe, education is a fundamental human right. To help ethnic minority students pursue their education, we provide scholarships to assist our EM students with financial difficulties. We also opened the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Centre for ethnic minority children in Hong Kong, providing extensive training and free SEN therapy to the children and their parents respectively. ◩ 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚: 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬  Call Mira is a support helpline for ethnic minority women and girls in Hong Kong in English, Urdu, and Hindi. It provides them with a safe space to share, with all information shared kept confidential.  Through Call Mira, we have received help requests from some women suffering from domestic violence, and have offered legal assistance from our Legal Leads.  Join us in marking Human Rights Day. His life was transformed through our community initiatives. ********** My name is Dharma. I am 82 and I lost my wife, so I joined my son to live in Hong Kong in 2016. I live with my son, his wife and their children. I am alone all day because my son and his wife work, and I miss my wife so much. I have been lonely for a long time. I found out about The Zubin Foundation gatherings for the elderly, and I now join them every Friday. I have made friends, which is difficult when you are my age. Every week I arrive early and get in the queue. I love to meet my new friends and now have something to do. Before I would just sit at home and my mind would wander. Thank you for supporting The Zubin Foundation because you have helped me feel happy, and I feel like I belong now.
