The digital acceleration has increased cyber-attack frequency and sophistication, highlighting cybersecurity readiness disparities in insurance industry. Today, the #IA has published a revised Guideline on Cybersecurity (#GL20) effective January 1, 2025, introducing the Cyber Resilience Assessment Framework (#CRAF) for insurers to enhance operational resilience. We encourage insurers to prepare early for risk assessments and promptly address any control gaps for timely remediation as these new guidelines approach soon. The #IA maintains close dialogue with the insurance industry to drive the adoption of insurtech and innovative technologies that directly benefit policyholders. At a panel discussion titled “Powering the Future through Health Innovation, Tech Disruption & Market Evolution” during the Insurtech Insights, our Executive Director of the General Business Division, MM Lee discussed with CEOs of major insurers on how insurtech and health tech innovations present both benefits and challenges in regulatory compliance and data security, particularly when expanding cross-border business. The discussion also highlighted the industry’s imperative to foster innovation and collaboration, strengthening Hong Kong's role in connecting Mainland China and the global insurance landscape. Our Senior Manager of the Policy and Legislation Division, Jessica Yeung, spoke at another panel, exploring how insurers remain resilient under evolving data, operational and tech risks. Jessica showcased instances of insurers investing in cyber resilience and technological advancements with our regulatory effort. To build on this further, she indicated that the enhanced Guideline on Cybersecurity (#GL20), together with the introduction of the Cyber Resilience Assessment Framework (#CRAF) will soon be launched with effect from January 2025 to further bolster industry resilience. #InsuranceAuthority #Insurtech #DataResilience

Technological advancements are redefining the insurance sector and the actuarial profession. At the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong’s 22nd Appointed Actuaries Symposium last week, our Executive Director of the Policy and Legislation Division Clement Lau gave a keynote speech on how technology and data-driven innovations have been able to enhance work efficiency and capability of actuaries.
