Om os

At SEM-SAFE Fire Safety, we engineer and supply certified fire protection systems. Within the Land area, SEM-SAFE Fire Safety A/S has a successful track record with a wide range of applications, from high-pressure water mist fire safety systems for museums and heritage sites to industrial applications, office buildings, and universities. In the Marine area, we have pushed the boundaries of development and design to offer a wide portfolio of high-pressure water mist fire safety solutions for numerous application areas on almost any type of vessel. Our Gas division is one of the leading suppliers of low-pressure CO2-based fire safety systems for the marine industry. Our project engineering team has the expertise to design, produce, and deliver technical documentation for these systems, ensuring they meet the highest safety standards. Buildings and ships worldwide are installed with our SEM-SAFE® system, which is based on high-pressure mist a sustainable technology that we believe can make a difference when it comes to reliable fire safety for people and assets. The system is tested to efficiently suppress and control fires. It uses less water and keeps water damage to a minimum. In addition, SEM-SAFE Fire Safety has a long tradition in developing and supplying low-pressure CO2-based fire safety systems for industrial applications and ships. We offer a compact system that takes little space, that activates quickly in case of a fire, that is simple to install and operate, and is cost-effective to service. SEM-SAFE Fire Safety A/S (formerly known as Danfoss Fire Safety A/S) is 100% owned by Siemens and reports to the Fire Safety Business, which is part of the Buildings Business Unit at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.  SEM-SAFE Fire Safety A/S operates as a separate legal entity.

Under which conditions do Li-ion batteries explode? Well, we are curious too. And to answer the question, DBI and our partners RESC Rednings- & Sikkerhedscenter, HBR Hovedstadens Beredskab, Stena Recycling, and SEM-SAFE Fire Safety A/S (formerly known as Danfoss Fire Safety A/S) just finalized a testing campaign aimed at understanding the explosion conditions risks. Moreover, the project evaluates firefighting tactics and will potentially formulate recommendations for first responders.  A result of this testing campaign is that we now have a repeatable recipe for making battery cells and modules explode. We also investigated the effect of the water mist on the explosions – more on that later. The tests were performed on Lithium-ion NMC batteries (75% state of charge, 6.21 kWh capacity), in our new test set up – MOBAT (Mobile Battery Test set up), equipped to contain fires and explosions from batteries at multiple scales.  Conclusions will be published soon on DBI’s LinkedIn profile. Stay tuned for the official report!  This work was a collaboration between the following partners: DBI: Agata Gallas-Hulin, Ana Sauca, Anders Drustrup, Elena Funk, Iben Hansen-Bruhn, Michael Olesen, Morten Olesen  RESC Rednings- & Sikkerhedscenter: Rene Kofod, Tonny Hansen  HBR Hovedstadens Beredskab: Henrik Tvermose, Michael Christian Schou  Stena Recycling: Glenn Jensen   SEM-SAFE Fire Safety A/S: Henrik Bygbjerg, Jonas Hansen, Lars Wrang Jensen Credit for video: Johannes Bøgelund Gravesen
