Pain management is essential for effective wound care, but is the WHO analgesic ladder the right tool for addressing the complexities of chronic wound pain? In a critical commentary published in the latest issue of the Journal of Wound Management, Manuel Gerónimo-Pardo assesses the misapplication of the WHO analgesic ladder in managing pain associated with chronic wounds. He argues that this widely recognised guideline, originally designed for cancer pain, falls short in addressing the unique and complex needs of patients with painful chronic wounds. Chronic wounds present unique challenges, often accompanied by persistent pain that requires more than a one-size-fits-all solution. This commentary highlights the need to rethink and refine pain management protocols in wound care to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. We look back on a successful inaugural Spanish Diabetic Foot Project meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. José Luis Lázaro-Martínez. ✨ The year is coming to an end. And what a year it has been! ✨ 2024 has been busy for EWMA. It has been a year with many great achievements, including new publications, courses, and a very successful conference in London. We can all be proud of the work to improve the situation for individuals with non-healing wounds, by supporting accurate diagnosis and optimal wound management. You all have a part in this. This is our mutual contribution to the world in a challenging time, which on a more global level is leaving many people in a devastating situation caused by wars or natural disasters. It may seem small, but it is nonetheless a significant contribution on an individual scale. We sincerely thank you all for your interest and engagement with EWMA. Without your interest and participation, this would not have been possible. We hope to see you in Barcelona in March next year for another great wound conference.
