🇺🇸 🇩🇰 As 2024 nears its close, we’re reflecting on the moments that made this year special. One highlight was hosting U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Alan Leventhal, for a tour of the Energy Machines™ energy central at BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group HQ. Together, we explored the technological advancements, strategies, and unique challenges in greening the energy landscape in both Denmark and the U.S.   In Copenhagen, BIG HQ demonstrates what is achievable in new buildings by using foundation piles as an efficient medium to store thermal energy. A heat pump moves energy between the piles and the building year-round, delivering clean, electric-powered heating and cooling with efficiencies 8-12 times greater than traditional district heating or HVAC systems.   We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with Ambassador Leventhal and appreciate his genuine interest in accelerating the transition to sustainable energy in the U.S., Denmark, and beyond. 🇸🇪 Energy Machines has officially commissioned the largest geothermal installation in central Stockholm! At Bonnierhuset, the iconic 1940s high-rise owned by Bonnier Fastigheter, heating and cooling are now sourced from geothermal energy and the building’s own waste heat — cutting the property’s operational CO2 by 82% and purchased energy by 80%.   The turnkey energy system consists of:   🍃 Geothermal energy storage: 27,670 meters of boreholes beneath the basement car park, drilled using exclusively green electricity 🍃 Energy Machines™ Heat Pumps: Four units efficiently move heat between the geothermal storage and building 🍃 Energy Machines™ Control: A self-balancing system that ensures continuous optimization with no energy waste   We are very proud to partner with Bonnier on this showcase project, demonstrating the significant decarbonization potential of integrated energy systems for existing buildings.   Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dAXQBTgU #ThisIsAnEnergyMachine #GeothermalEnergyStorage #Stockholm

Geothermal progress in Copenhagen! We’re at a new residential development in Nordhavn installing ground collector pipework for the property’s Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) system. BTES stores thermal energy underground during warmer months for use in heating during colder months, and vice versa for cooling — ensuring year-round efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.   These black pipes form the vital link between 5000 meters of underground thermal storage and the above-ground manifold, which connects to two high-performance heat pumps.   With no connection to district energy providers, residents of the 13,100 m² apartment complex will receive highly efficient, renewable heating and cooling from an Energy Machines™ integrated system comprised of:   ✅ 20 boreholes, each 250 meters deep ✅ 2 x Energy Machines™ Heat Pumps (352 kW heating, 244 kW cooling capacity) ✅ Energy Machines™ Control platform for continuous monitoring, optimization, and scalability for evolving energy needs   Together, we can accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. 5E Byg A/S #GeothermalEnergyStorage #GeothermalHeatingAndCooling #Copenhagen

We're extremely proud for Phase 1 of the low-carbon retrofit at 345 Hudson, NY to receive Engineering News-Record's 2024 Excellence in Sustainability Award. Pictured below are members of the project team, including Consigli Construction Co., Inc., Hines, and Energy Machines' U.S. Team Lead, Javier Aleman, receiving the award at the celebration hosted by Engineering News-Record. Once complete, the retrofit and rapid electrification of the nearly century-old building will enable 345 Hudson to reduce its carbon emissions by more than 85%, serving as a model for other large commercial buildings pursuing decarbonization. 🗽 A major milestone was achieved at 345 Hudson, New York this week, with the successful commissioning of the building’s new Energy Machines™ central heat pump plant!   The energy central, comprised of five heat pumps, will provide both heating and cooling to the lobby and future commercial spaces as new tenants move in. The central is integrated into the building’s ambient loop – a building-wide thermal network initiated last year with the commissioning of four heat pumps across various floors. The ambient loop enables energy to be shared and moved throughout the building.   The 100% electric energy system will reduce the 93-year-old building's CO2 emissions by more than 85%.
