As we head into winter, we’re reminded of when the Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency asked us to help power Calypso, a sustainable icebreaker boat. With our partner Turku Repair Yard, we developed a hybrid motorized removable bow. The bow is powered by our Danfoss Editron hybrid-electric system and can be operated remotely. Calypso now efficiently navigates winter temperatures as low as -30°C breaking through ice up to 70cm thick. However, our story doesn’t end there. Our team designed the bow so that it can be integrated into almost any tug system. This means our bow solution could help 15% of the world’s maritime transport in Baltic Sea alone to be more efficient while meeting the everchanging challenges of the maritime industry. After 12 years of leading Danfoss Power Solutions (DPS), Eric Alstrom has decided to move on to another chapter in his career: “After having a great time in a company I love, and with fantastic colleagues, I want to make a change in my career. This has been discussed for some time, and I agreed that I would stay on for the launch of the evolved business model and the midterm planning. DPS has the perfect new leader in Daniel Winter, who is well-known and recognized for excellent leadership throughout Danfoss, and he will use a solid foundation to take DPS to the next level,” says Eric. Daniel Winter, currently CFO of DPS will take on the role as DPS Segment President effective January 1.   Ensuring a smooth and effective transition, Eric and Daniel will share their formal leadership hand-off with customers and distribution partners during the first quarter 2025. Eric says: “Danfoss has transformed tremendously, especially in the last five years. Merging the Eaton Hydraulics with DPS has been the highlight of my career. Together, we’ve solidified our role as a leader in hydraulics, which remains core to Danfoss.” Daniel played a critical role in driving the financial strategy and ensuring DPS’ performance during strong growth and challenging market conditions. Passionate for the mobile and industrial hydraulics business as well as electrification, Daniel says: “I’m excited to build on our strong foundation, great products and solutions, excellent customer relationships, and a fantastic and talented team with a history of delivering great results. We're pleased to announce the launch of the Danfoss Editron EM-PMI375 690-volt electric motor. Smaller, lighter, and more efficient than conventional products on the market, the EM-PMI375 provides up to 96% efficiency throughout its operating range. Based on synchronous reluctance assisted permanent magnet technology, the EM-PMI375 functions as both a motor and a generator and is designed to work with the Danfoss EC-C1700B inverter. Both the motor and inverter operate on 690-V AC and 1,050-V DC power, commonly found in winch, crane, marine, mining, and material-handling applications “Our new EM-PMI375 690-volt motor and EC-C1700B inverter are the first two pieces of our 690-volt ecosystem, with more to come. There are few, if any, options out there for true 690-volt mobile-grade inverters and motors,” said Chao Wang, Head of Portfolio Management of #DanfossEditron.
