Perspectives on Cross-Functional Business Partnering. Our Managing Partner Michael Lykke Bülow shared his insights at the NOCA Conference - focusing on the critical role of cross-functional business partnering in driving organizational success. Highlighting how fostering collaboration across departments creates value, enhances decision-making, and enables sustainable growth in today’s dynamic business landscape. We in BPI believe that cross-functional collaboration contributes to the broader conversation on empowering businesses through effective partnerships. #Leadership #BusinessPartnering #Collaboration #Crossfunctionalpartnering
BREAKING DOWN SILOS - THE CASE FOR CROSS-FUNCTIONAL BUSINESS PARTNERING. Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the NOCA conference on HR Business Partnering. As we navigate a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) environment, business challenges are rarely confined to a single department. Yet, many organizations remain stuck in siloed business partnering setups—HR, IT, Finance, and Legal each tackling their own agendas independently. Sounds familiar? The conference reinforced an important point. Cross-functional collaboration is no longer a “nice to have.” It’s a must-have for delivering real business impact. Our business stakeholders expect their business partners to understand and collaborate with peer functions (thanks for this point Anders Ibsen) So how do we do it? We need to move beyond siloed approaches and adopt an integrated mindset. By aligning strategies, capabilities, and role definitions, we can elevate our business partnering maturity and unlock significant value for stakeholders. Here are three key takeaways from my talk: 1️⃣ Start small: Build your case for change through tangible wins. 2️⃣ Focus on overlaps: Recognize that corporate functions face similar challenges—leverage these as opportunities to collaborate. 3️⃣ Grow incrementally: Collaboration maturity is a journey, not an overnight transformation. At BPI, we are passionate about driving this agenda. However, to succeed, we rely upon the expertise and mandate from HR to drive this agenda. Having met 120 HR professionals yesterday, I feel confident that we are on the right track. Curious to learn more about this? Why not join the "Strategic Business Partnering" program at week 5 that we are hosting as part of CBS Executive Fonden Winter School. (see link in the comments). Thanks to Andreas Arentoft and the rest of the NOCA team for giving some space to a "finance guy" in your HR community.
