Om os
BIMCO is the world's largest international shipping association, with over 2,000 members in around 130 countries, representing 62% of the world’s tonnage. Our global membership includes shipowners, operators, managers, brokers, and agents. We are a non-profit organisation and have three areas of work: - We’ve been creating contracts and clauses since 1905. We believe that standardised terms create equality, fairness and support business, and we believe this matters. - We work to promote transparent and non-discriminatory standards and harmonisation within the shipping industry. - We offer a range of products in support of the wider shipping industry, not just our members, from our maritime training courses, our online contract editor SmartCon, ship performance tool SHIP PI and BIMCO publications.

The supply chain for charcoal cargoes leading up to sea transportation is about to change with the onset of amendments agreed at the IMO. This will bring about major changes to how charcoal must be safely packed for sea transport in packaged form including containers, as well as ensuring safer transportation through improved packaging and stowage provisions and requiring mandatory dangerous goods transport documentation. Learn more about the revised IMO regulations coming into voluntary application on 1 January 2025: https://lnkd.in/dTipvdEz #BIMCO #IMO #GlobalTrade

Reflecting on 2024, I think we can agree that “status quo” would not be an accurate way to describe the environment in which we, the shipping industry, has been operating. We are facing a rise in the demand for decarbonising the world fleet, and at the same time, we are operating in a world of rising geopolitical tensions and risks. To meet those challenges, BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has been focused on providing new clauses, and updating existing ones, to ensure that the industry is equipped with the best possible contractual solutions to navigate the changing environment and new regulations. Throughout 2024, we have managed to strengthen BIMCO’s portfolio of carbon clauses and have continued the work to update the war risk clauses. All of these clauses are crucial to meeting the current and future challenges. Last month, we adopted the BIMCO FuelEU Maritime Clause for Time Charter Parties 2024. It is no secret that this clause has been widely anticipated and that we were very pleased to see it go through. The clause helps stakeholders align their contractual frameworks before the FuelEU Maritime Regulation comes into force on 1 January 2025. Another addition to BIMCO’s carbon clauses portfolio was released in May when the Documentary Committee adopted a standard mandate for use when parties to a ship management contract agree to mandate the ship manager to comply with obligations under the European Union Emission Trading System (ETS).
