  • Toyota New Zealand Limited has been Enviromark certified by Toitū for 10 years! They are a leading member committed to environmental sustainability with Diamond certification across all Aotearoa stores and dealerships, in addition to being a Toitū Carbon Reduce certified organisation. One in four vehicles on New Zealand roads is a Toyota. As one of the leading car brands in the country, they recognise the impact and opportunity they have to make a difference. They’re working on both their environmental impact and reducing their carbon footprint. By how much, you may ask? 46% by 2030 across all scopes – operational and vehicles they sell, including new and used. In their Sustainability Report 2024 published this month (with data and targets reviewed by Toitū), they acknowledge how ambitious this is. 84% of their emissions comes from the vehicles they sell, and some factors rely on regulatory changes and customer demand. As for their environmental management, it is extensive and covers a wide range of projects. Simple switches include ensuring car wash machines are able to reuse water. Here’s some takeaways from their report, including initiatives they’ve implemented that are driving (pun intended) change 👇 #sustainabilityreport #toyota Chris Bailey (CEnvP) Eze Cancina Nadine Nagel

  • New Zealand's second emissions reduction plan (ERP2) has just been released. This outlines what the government’s strategy is to reduce emissions in New Zealand between, what's called the "budget period", 2026 – 2030. The new plan has sections on technology and innovation, and building and construction that have been added.   When Toitū hosted an ERP2 consultation webinar in August alongside DETA, Ekos, and Sustainable Business Council NZ our poll with participants showed expectations for the government to prioritise investment in low emission technologies and provide policy certainty to encourage private investment. There are policies and initiatives included in this second plan aiming to increase the uptake of new technologies and provide direction.   The ERP2 also claims we're on track to meet our targets for the first emissions budget period 2022-2025.   The government has 5 years to work on a plan for 2031-2035. This work is really important to reduce the impacts of climate change, and also encourage innovation and economic growth.   Let us know your thoughts on what is (and isn’t) included. #ERP2 #emissions #NewZealand

    • Poll taken from a webinar called ERP2 Consultation Panel Discussion with 195 participants. Question is select the top 3 roles of government in emissions reduction and is multiple choice. Top choices selected are firstly incentivising investment in low emissions technologies with 141 votes out of 195. Second, providing policy certainty to encourage private investment with 120 votes out of 195. Third, funding/ supporting research and commercialisation of emerging technologies with 93 votes out of 195.
  • 90% of executives believe that sustainability is important, but only 60% have a strategy. When it comes to emissions; targets, regulations, and ways of measurement are constantly evolving. There are however 2 constants: 1️⃣ Global warming is trending upwards at a steady pace and has been since measurements started. 2️⃣ Making a commitment to manage and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at source is the most important aspect of climate performance. Decarbonisation, at pace, is Aotearoa New Zealand's best chance to hit our 2030 and 2050 climate goals. Read more on why sustainability is crucial for corporate strategy in the World Economic Forum's article linked in the comments. #ClimateImpact #decarbonisation #ClimateGoals

  • We are sad to hear that Peter Yealands, the founder of Yealands Wine Group, has passed.   Yealands were the first winery to be net carbonzero certified under our programmes. Peter led an innovative and out-of-the-box approach; from trialling Babydoll sheep, playing music to chickens and vines, or investing in one of the biggest solar installations in New Zealand. He was a catalyst for climate leadership in and beyond the wine sector.   Thank you, Peter, for your bold leadership.   (Photo: Toitū team members at the Yealands YAK endurance race in 2014 Austin Hansell Belinda Mathers Josephine Rudkin-Binks)

  • Since 2002, Sea Cleaners have collected over 14.6 million litres of waste from our waterways! And the impact can be seen, with our Ōtautahi Christchurch team noticing how little rubbish there was to collect on their recent volunteer days. 🙌 Our hope is for better managed waste systems that are more circular and keep our coastlines free from rubbish. Until then, we are grateful for the daily Sea Cleaners mahi and to Toitūians William Chaney, Tina HartungKhairul Saidah Abas Azmi (Saida), PhDSaskia Wohlgemuth, Chelsea and Natalie Ward for getting stuck in. #OceanWaste #KeepOurOceansClean #WasteManagement

  • Have you seen our Toitū mark before? In a market where climate scrutiny is increasing, having the confidence to make credible claims is crucial. Over their first 3-5 years, our members reduce their emissions by an average of 36%. When certified, Toitū members can use our mark in their marketing and communications. They can showcase their emissions commitment to customers and stakeholders. Join our programmes. Be across the latest science and international requirements. Together, we can sustain the life of this place, our people and our future. #ClimateClaims #EnvironmentalClaims #ClimateLeader #EarnTheMark

  • Your sustainability data can be used for more than just sustainability. Phoenix Recycling Group uses it to form business cases across the organisation to increase efficiency. And they're seeing success from an ROI perspective too. 🎥 Hear first-hand how they're using climate to shape their business for success in our webinar recording here: https://lnkd.in/gi4Ec8b7 Hilary West-Reeve #ClimateStrategy #BusinessStrategy #ClimateAction #BusinessData

  • WineWorks have reduced their emissions by 45% in just 3 years. They're a Toitū net carbonzero certified organisation that bottles and stores wine across NZ. How did they do it? They made a few changes, such as: 🍷 Phasing out inefficient equipment 🍷 Removing CO₂ from their production process (except for sparkling wine) 🍷 Replacing diesel trucks with electric vehicles 🍷 Switching to greener electricity 🍷 Installing energy-saving LED lights 🍷 Creating a hole in the wall to allow their electric tugs to go directly between the Production Hall and warehouse. Not needing to drive around the building reduces traffic and time, and no longer relies on gas forklifts or diesel trucks [see the tugs in action below] Crucially, these changes are being led by the WineWorks board and CEO. Next, they're diving into more scope 3 (value chain) emissions measurement, including with freight and packaging. Ka pai! 👏 #ClimateAction #CarbonZero #decarbonisation Emily Dekker

  • Gone are the days when carbon reduction was just a responsibility. It's now a competitive advantage. And as scrutiny of climate claims increases, it's critical your business learns what your supply chain and customers expect of you.
