If you have seen the latest OECD snapshot, you'll note that we are positioned in the lower quartile. How does the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development measure productivity? Labour  📌GDP per Hour Worked: This measures the gross domestic product (GDP) divided by the total number of hours worked by all employees. 📌GDP per Employed Person: This measures GDP divided by the total number of employed persons.   Our perspective on the Labour measure is that with 97% of New Zealand businesses classified as small businesses, employing fewer than 20 people, they often operate at different efficiency scales compared to the Fonterra's of the world.    📌Multifactor Productivity (MFP) Multifactor productivity, also known as total factor productivity (TFP), takes into account multiple inputs used in the production process, such as labour, capital, and intermediate goods. It measures the efficiency with which these inputs are used to produce output. 📌The OECD also measures productivity at the sectoral and industry levels, such as manufacturing, services, agriculture, etc... It also considers other indicators that impact productivity, such as: 📌Investment in Human Capital: Education and training data. 📌Innovation and Technology: Research & Development (R&D) expenditure, and technology adoption. 📌Business Dynamics: Business entry and exit rates, scale economies, and competition intensity. At The Lean Hub we like to keep it simple: 👉Are we doing better today that we were yesterday?  👉Are we making first-time grade product when called to do so? Expanding on that point, producing products that meet quality standards on the first attempt, without the need for rework, is crucial for reducing waste and unplanned downtime. This approach helps maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and optimizes productivity. And ultimately the more productive we are, the more we can produce, leading to higher living standards and prosperity for everyone living in our beautiful Aotearoa. We take a genuine back-to-basics approach and delve into essential topics in our latest paper: Mindset, Culture, Waste, Traditional Lean Tools, Implementation, and Measuring Success. • It was fantastic to see our GM, Theresa Grainger, presenting on developing a culture of continuous improvement, understanding productivity losses, and emphasizing the importance of creating a safe environment where people feel empowered to learn, contribute, and challenge. This is the foundation for driving innovation and achieving sustainable productivity. Joining her on stage were two other fabulous speakers: ✨ Gary Smith from The CFO Centre - New Zealand, who shared insights on the "magic numbers" that can transform your bottom line. ✨ Dean Prebble from EverEdge Global, who explored both tangible and intangible assets, offering strategies to effectively value your business and maximize its potential. These discussions highlighted the perfect blend of strategy, innovation, and culture that organizations need to excel in today’s competitive landscape. A big thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in the conversation and thank you to Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce for hosting. #ContinuousImprovement #Productivity #BusinessGrowth #Innovation #Leadership

  • 🚚✨ Ever noticed the wisdom on wheels? ✨🚚 Mainfreights truck quotes always inspire a second look, and some deep thinking. One that recently caught our eye was: “True learning is measured by changing actions.” At first glance, it is a simple statement, but in the world of continuous improvement, this quote holds the key to change. In Lean, it is not just about knowing the theory or understanding processes conceptually. It is about actively applying what you learn to evolve, grow and improve. We can read books, attend workshops, and discuss strategies endlessly, but true learning only occurs when we take action, when we transform insights into tangible, impactful improvements. Whether that’s streamlining operations, reducing waste, or enhancing customer value, the goal is always to evolve and keep moving forward. How are you putting your Learning into action? Drop your thoughts below! Let’s share and inspire each other to keep moving and improving.💡 #ContinuousImprovement #LeanThinking #learning #LifelongLearning

  • 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀❓ In a session today on strategic objectives and KPIs, our facilitator kicked things off with question after question, reminding us that education isn't just about putting information in, it is about drawing it out. By asking open ended questions, we activate the brain, encouraging deeper thinking and help people make connections between concepts. This approach allows us to shift from passive learning to active engagement, where ideas surface, insights form, and solutions emerge. 🔸 What do you know about Strategic Objectives, Balanced Scorecards, KPIs, and KRAs? 🔸 How do you think your people perceive these concepts? 🔸 How are we regularly displaying results, and why is this important? 🔸 Why would you want to see these results? 🔸 How do you decide what gets reported on? 🔸 Who is responsible? 🔸 How do you measure and show progression and trends? 🔸 What behaviours are you trying to encourage through these metrics? 🔸 What market trends should be considered? 🔸 How are you engaging your customers and suppliers? 🔸 How do you know you are performing well? Questions sparked rich conversation and engage the group from the start, allowing everyone to share their knowledge and perspectives. Questions aren't just icebreakers, they drive deeper thinking, reflection, connection to the bigger picture and most importantly learning. 💡 𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 with your teams? #Facilitation #StrategicPlanning #Leadership #AskingQuestions #BalancedScorecard #ContinuousImprovement
