The Bay of Plenty has climbed three spots to 9th in the latest ASB Bank Regional Scorecard, with a bumper kiwifruit season and steady long-term population growth driving the region’s performance. However, challenges like a 24.5% decline in construction and flat employment remain.   Tauranga Business Chamber CEO Matt Cowley acknowledges these struggles while also highlighting sectors defying the odds: “Anecdotally, we hear a number of local manufacturers are bucking nationwide trends by experiencing growth. These manufacturers are exporting overseas, meaning they are less exposed to tight domestic discretionary spending.”   Looking ahead, Cowley is optimistic about the potential for housing development as interest rates ease and new infrastructure opens up more land.   With resilience and innovation, the Bay’s economy is holding strong!
