  • We are pleased to announce Murray W. Strong's appointment as the Establishment Chair for the Local Water Done Well Programme to ensure alignment with government expectations. At its meeting on 8 November 2024, the Council resolved to move forward with investigations and planning for setting up a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) for water services and to engage an establishment chair to prepare for the work required in consulting the community in February and March 2025. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the Council's commitment to enhancing the district's water services as expected by central government's new Local Water Done Well reform. • Following the launch of Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn and its vision for the whole district, we’re now asking people how that looks for their town or area. Our Area Plans set out a 30-year framework for sustainable growth and development. Plans will be created by working with local communities, businesses and other key stakeholders to identify how local townships should grow and develop in the future. Our interactive map allows you to pinpoint and comment on what you would like to keep or change, or what new things could be added around areas such as economic development (jobs and businesses), housing, transport and infrastructure. 🏢🏡🚴💻 Find out more at https://lnkd.in/gD5GPzAX

  • A vision for the Future of Selwyn for the next 100 years was launched yesterday. Waikirikiri Ki Tua Future Selwyn, the Council’s long-term approach to inter generational wellbeing, sustainability, resilience, growth, change, and development was launched at Te Ara Ātea by Climate Change Commission Chair Dr Rod Carr, Mayor Sam Broughton and Chief Executive Sharon Mason. As a living web-based document, it will continue to be shaped by the communities of Waikirikiri Selwyn, starting with engagement on Area Plans, which outline how the strategic direction could apply to specific towns and areas, shaping them in the long term 🤩 www.selwyn.govt.nz/future

  • Landowners and community groups around the Selwyn district have started planning their new planting and biodiversity protection projects after receiving funding from the Selwyn Natural Environment Fund (SNEF). 🌱 Over 51 projects applied for funding from the Selwyn District Council, which include native restoration planting, predator trapping, invasive weed control and fencing projects to protect remnant native bush. “The Council is pleased to have so many landowners and community groups working hard to restore our natural environment, and we are proud to be able to support their projects with our funding,” says Selwyn District Council Enabling Services Executive Director Tim Harris. He explains that so far around $200,000 of the Selwyn Natural Environment Fund has been allocated to 48 successful applicants, with $58,000 still available for additional projects. • We have started work on a unique parkour area, 3x3 basketball court and wheels area as part of a dedicated Youth Zone at Foster Park in Rolleston. 🌳 “Selwyn has one of the largest population groups under 24 years of age and this Youth Zone is part of the Council’s commitment to make the district a great place to live, work and play, for young and old,” says Tim Mason, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Property. Foster Park in Rolleston was recently recognised as the Active Park/Sportsground of the Year, at the Recreation Aotearoa Awards and Mason says that the new Youth Zone, as well as completing the Foster Park central area, will put the finishing touches on a state-of-the-art community facility.
