Primary ITO
Education Administration Programs
We're the only organisation in NZ dedicated to providing training and qualifications to over 30 primary industries.
About us
Primary ITO offers nationally recognised, NZQA qualifications to over thirty primary industries. We work with employers and others in our sectors to identify, manage and promote training opportunities, and with schools to help students learn the basics before they enter the primary industries. Primary ITO monitors the quality of training and assessment, both on and off the job. We contract accredited training providers who deliver courses on our behalf. We maintain positive relationships with industry partners like DairyNZ, Beef + Lamb New Zealand, the New Zealand Pork Industry Board and the Poultry Industry Association of New Zealand to develop and maintain relevant, up to date qualifications that deliver the CAN DO skills the industry needs.

The Food And Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence have extended earlybird registrations for the 2025 Research and Insights Forum. See below for more information about this incredibly important forum and to secure your tickets.
Earlybird Ticket Extension for the Research & Insights Forum 2025 In light of ongoing challenges and uncertainty within the vocational education and training sector, as well as the widespread adjustments being made by organisations facing staff changes and tighter budgets, we are pleased to announce the extension of earlybird ticket sales for the Research & Insights Forum until 31 January 2025. This extension ensures that more educators and industry professionals will have the opportunity to secure their place at the forum at a reduced rate, allowing them to join us in March 2025 for an event that promises to deliver valuable insights and powerful networking opportunities. This extension underscores our commitment to advancing vocational excellence, driving innovation, and enhancing talent retention in the food and fibre sector. We look forward to welcoming as many attendees as possible to what promises to be an engaging, thought-provoking, and impactful event. Don’t miss the chance to be part of the conversation shaping the future of our industry. Members of the Primary ITO Horticulture team, Martina Balasova, Charlie Peterson, Hamish Gordon and stephen Griffiths, had a brilliant couple of days at the recent 2024 Young Horticulturist of The Year Competition! It was a fantastic occasion with two days of challenges for the five finalists from across the #horticulture sector. Training Advisors, Stephen and Charlie (pictured) were joined by fellow Training Advisor Linda Dreadon, in being asked to be part of the judging panel. The team then attended the awards dinner and celebrated as current Primary ITO Diploma Learner Anna England, scooped the top prize! Many thanks to the organisers of this year’s Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition for putting on a memorable few days and huge congratulations to all the contestants, who should be incredibly proud of their success.
