Lots is happening on the Greenlea Foundation Trust front! We currently have the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter Winch Appeal in progress. The new Greenlea Rescue Helicopter, H145, will be hitting the skies early 2025, and we are working with the Philips Search and Rescue Trust fundraising for a winch. Having completed 524 rescue missions in 2023, the helicopter brings lifesaving equipment, rescue personnel, and trauma-trained flight paramedics directly to those in need. The Greenlea Foundation Trust will match every donation up to 300,000 NZD. Over 200,000 NZD has been raised out of the 616,071 NZD goal. The winch is a highly specialised piece of equipment, and it is vital. A rescue winch enables the crew to lift patients safely and swiftly out of difficult terrain. The region the helicopter covers has the highest number of winch rescues in the country, so it is essential that the H145 rescue helicopter is equipped with one. https://lnkd.in/gAUJhhkt We are also involved in the Morrinsville Museum extension, the Waitoa walkway project, the Growing Future Farmers graduation ceremony (which took place last month), and both St Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army projects. Tony recently visited St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army for firsthand project updates. THE GREENLEA FOUNDATION TRUST The Greenlea Foundation Trust was established as an initiative by shareholders of Greenlea to support a range of charitable organisations and help support our community. OUR VISION To give to individuals and/or organisations in immediate need or where giving improves their long-term future. OUR MISSION The Trust is focussing, in particular, on education, poverty and faith values and where compassion requires a response to the suffering of others. Some of our team attended the Kerr & Ladbrook True Colours Long Lunch last month. Based in Hamilton, the event celebrates the Melbourne Cup and plays a big part in their annual fundraising. True Colours Children’s Health Trust support children with a serious health condition and their families. The dedicated and compassionate staff at True Colours ensure the right mix of care is provided to support children and their families through the difficulties and grief of a chronic, life-limiting or life-threatening illness. The Kerr & Ladbrook True Colours event has been taking place in Hamilton since 2006, and it fundraises to help children and their families with counselling, creative therapies, advocacy and nursing support. https://lnkd.in/gtR_BH_T Greenlea purchased a table and some of our team headed off to the event. Greenlea Butcher Shop donated an auction item – A Home Dining Experience with the Greenlea Butcher Shop Ambassador Chef, Andrew Clarke… The winner of this auction item is treated to a 4-course meal and wine pairing, prepared in their home by Greenlea Butcher Shop’s award-winning Ambassador Chef, Andrew Clarke. Featuring in Farmers Weekly NZ, the Eating the Elephant contributors have handed the pen to four farming New Zealanders with a history of taking big challenges… this week, Tony features. "Tony Egan has forged an impressive career in the New Zealand Primary Industries. He currently heads up Greenlea Premier Meats in Waikato and is a member of the Meat Industry Association COucil after previous leadership roles with Asure Quality and AFFCO. He has sat on the board of directors for Hill Laboratories, Beef + Lamb New Zealand, the Dairy Goat Cooperative and AGMARDT. The Greenlea Foundation contributes significantly to rural communities, from natural disaster relief to supporting those in need through a range of charitable organisations such as Vinnies and KidsCan. Greenlea also sponsors the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter in the cental North Island. Those who have worked with Egan will know both his love of poetry. And wit. Fittingly, his contribution to this ‘Lessons from Elephant Eaters’ series is by far the shortest. When the answers came back, we didn’t quite know what to make of them. But, as with reading poetry, the more we read, the more we appreciated it. It’s clear that his biggest lesson for elephant eaters is to not take it all too seriously - a lesson your usual Eating the Elephant writers can probably stand to learn." Some highlights… Who are you and what do you do? Managing Director of Greenlea Premier Meats, with a niece who’s a vegetarian and thinks I’m a psychopath with 250,000 victims every year. I’m not, but I do have six kids and a happy wife! Why did you choose a life in farming/ food & fibre? I was ambitious and thought I could feed the world… fortunately, India didn’t eat beef, so I got to stop for smoko. Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/g7jDGKqr

“Quality foods that grow people and the planet” is our vision. Our mission is, as a team, in every way to be the best and most progressive meat company in New Zealand through integrity, innovation and excellence. To achieve all of this, caring and investing in our people is pivotal to our success. We’re big enough to achieve, yet small enough to care. At our recent end of season BBQ with the team, we celebrated 11 of our team members for their service awards; 10-years, 20-years, 25-years and 30-years. We celebrated the 10-year service of; John Patiti, Win Zaw Zaw, Hannah Patiti, Nick Boyle, Peter Bright, Allan Anderson and Gus Pickering. 20-year service of John Goldsmith. 25-year service of Sekopi Moli. 30-year service of Pompi Paul and Clayton Heu. Congratulations guys. We are incredibly proud of you all and honoured to have each and every one of you as part of the Greenlea family.

A Farmer’s Perspective: Part 2. From our farmers Corrie & Donna Smit, Corona Farms. The Farm Assurance Programme. During calving, I don’t know how, but we managed to fit in a Farm Assurance Programme audit, and we are now accredited! Our Greenlea Livestock Buyer, Richard Baird, invited us to an NZFAP meeting. There, we learned what was required, and we signed up to be audited. The process was relatively painless. We had to up our game in a couple of areas: recording animal treatments for the beef farm, a sharps container, and a stocktake of our agri chemicals with batch numbers and expiry dates. We also put another Health and Safety sign at the second entrance to the farm. We believe there is value in supplying what the customer wants. If our customers want more transparency on what happens on a farm and are prepared to pay for it, then the extra paperwork is a small price to pay. Having gone through Globalgap on our kiwifruit orchards and Co-operative Difference on the dairy farms, the beef FAP is just another audit. Our QCONZ Auditor, Lorraine Jones, is lovely. Sometimes, you can get overzealous auditors, but she is not one of those people, so I encourage those who aren’t accredited to give it a go. If it all sounds daunting, contact your local Greenlea rep, and they will help! . . . To find out more about the Farm Assurance Programme, click below. https://www.nzfap.com

We announced last month that the NEW Greenlea Rescue Helicopter will be available in early 2025. This incredible helicopter is just missing one thing… a rescue winch. Many rescues require a winch to lower CCFP down to a patient and a winch to lift the patient back up into the helicopter. It’s an essential part of every rescue helicopter's equipment. The team at Philips Search and Rescue Trust has tasked themselves with raising $616,071 to buy a new rescue winch for the H145 helicopter… and we have some good news! Greenlea will match each and every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $300,000 (NZD)! Doubling your donation and doubling the impact for your community. This means… only $300,000 needs to be raised for the new winch. To donate or for fundraising ideas, please head to rescue.org.nz/grh or call Philips Search and Rescue Trust 0800 11 10 10. We’ve included a photo of our current Greenlea Rescue Helicopter with its rescue winch in action… Check out the appeal video... featuring Tony 🎥🤩 https://lnkd.in/gAUJhhkt

Recently, our CFO, Jack Vollebregt, and several of our Waitoa JV Partners and other industry associates attended the 2024 Australian Renderers Symposium in Australia. It was a great opportunity to learn about the future of animal protein and tallow, with the theme of the conference being “Sustainability and the Circular Economy”. Attendees discussed new ideas, such as using recycled materials in meat plants and how tallow will play a bigger role in biofuel production, especially for airlines aiming to reduce their use of fossil fuels with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This is creating big opportunities for tallow suppliers. In Australia, renewable diesel, which takes more steps to produce than biodiesel, costs about $4.50 per litre compared to $1.40 for regular diesel. Although the production process is more costly, renewable diesel is very stable and works almost the same as regular diesel. Additionally, the quality of tallow used in biofuel isn’t a big issue, meaning different grades of tallow can be used. On the global front, there were discussions about new environmental rules in Europe and South America that could affect protein production. Demand for animal feed and tallow is expected to remain strong. Overall, the symposium was a fantastic chance to connect with key industry players and explore the future of animal protein and by-products.
