  • I'm not afraid to call you out. You'll thank me later! So many people forget accountants have values. They see us as number people. Not connected to ethics or opinions. But that's just not how it is, especially not for me. Because I know how much professional responsibility I carry. It's my job to help my clients and their employees succeed. So I'm focused on making sure the people I work with share my values. That our ethics align. Because to do a fantastic job, I need my clients to be completely honest with me. I need accurate information—all the details! This doesn't mean all my clients finances need to be perfect when they come to me. Not at all! But they do need to be willing to share openly. And uphold the same professional values. By doing this, together we can create fabulous results,  Knowing we're on the same page.

  • Succeeding in 2025, Isn't that hard. You've got 100 things you want to achieve in the new year. I get it. There's really no limit when it comes to business so you're all over the show, Not knowing what to focus on or being able to decide on an area that needs growth. So keep it simple. Because success really comes down to people, strategy, and execution. Make sure you have the right people on your team. Build a strong strategy. Then execute your plan! By doing this, you'll head into the new year with a clear direction. Not distracted by all the 'could-be's and 'what-if's. Just get focus on the simple stuff, And watch your business improve!

  • Don't be a hero, Hire one! You're holding up your business single-handedly. Calling all the shots. Wearing all the hats! And it's exhausting you. But you don't have to do it all alone. Or try and juggle every single thing. Because there are people out there who can help you: Marketers, HR Advisors, Accountants. These people exist to make your life and your business better. They free up your time, so you can devote more to doing what you love. And growing your business! So let go of the hero mentality and stop trying to do it all. Instead, build a team of experts who can help you thrive.

  • Let’s drop the ‘new year, new me’ mindset. It just doesn’t work. It’s tempting to set big, lofty resolutions. Like only drinking on weekends, Or never eating KFC again. But here’s the deal, Your goals need to be specific. Especially when it comes to your finances and business. Otherwise, you’ll have no idea how to actually achieve them, Or where to start! And let’s face it, you’ll ditch them as soon as things go off track. So, set resolutions like you’re setting a SMART goal. Make it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based. Because if your goal’s too big, Six months will slip by, and you’ll be no closer to it. So you’ll just push it to 2026!

  • It's not going to get easier, So do it now. It's scary looking at your accounts. I know. Especially when they're a mess. And you've been putting off the job for years. But if you don't try to fix them now, Things will only get worse! The job will just get bigger and bigger, And you could end up losing your business over it. So dig into your finances, And get someone to help you. You might have to completely start again. Because once you pull at a thread, The whole thing can unravel! I know it will be hard, But it will be rewarding in the long run. Because once you organise things, You'll gain a true understanding of the health of your business. So you can make informed decisions about the future, And know you're not going to be hit with any surprises. You'll be surprised by the peace of mind it will bring, And how much easier it becomes to focus on growing your business.

  • Let me give you an early Christmas gift. Ready? It's going to get better, Because it can't get any worse. I know it's been tough. Inland Revenue’s “clean-up” has felt more like a chokehold. But the grip has got to loosen! Likely before March. Because they can’t carry this into another year. Not without risking everyone just giving up. So your Christmas gift from me is the present of hope: It's going to get easier; it's going to get better. And we're almost there... We just need to get through the last part of this year!

  • If you don't do it, You won't find lying on the beach very relaxing! You're ready to go on holiday. I get it. Looking forward to escaping out of the city, filling your days with swimming and long lunches. But the thing is, you won't be able to truly enjoy the break if you haven't sorted out your cash flow. Because just because you want to stop, Doesn't mean everything else will! All your bills, like rent and power, will keep draining the account. Plus, you need to be sure you can pay your employees. So make it simple for yourself: Sort out your working account, Then set and forget. Keep your eye on the ball now, So you can actually enjoy your holiday! Makes sense, doesn't it?

  • "My accountant told me..." When you hear this, walk away. I know how much people love sharing their “insights.” Chatting down at the pub about the latest advice they’ve received. Ways to dodge tax, Or clever tips for getting deductions. To me, it makes more sense to trust a qualified accountant, Than a random person gossiping about finance. Because how can you be sure their advice is even true? That’s why I focus on educating my clients. I explain the legislation, How it all works, And what’s relevant to their situation. Because I know if my clients have the right information, They don’t get caught out by bad advice. And besides, there are far more interesting things to chat about than personal finances!

  • It might be too late… But I need to tell you something about your Christmas party. I know it’s tempting to throw a send off for the team. Something to end the year on a high. And you might be thinking you can claim it all back. But can only claim 50%. And that’s GST-exclusive! Even if it’s on-site and there are leftovers for the next day, You’re not getting the full amount back. So get clever, and think before you throw huge money on your next Christmas party. It might still find it's worth it, But you’ll be glad you paused to check the numbers, So there are no surprises later!

  • Will you spend the 15th of January relaxed, Or swamped with work? Yes, it's almost time for you to have a break. To sit by the pool and read your book, Or spend lazy days out on the boat. But if you don't focus on wrapping your head around your obligations before the 15th of January, Heading back to the office will be a nightmare. Because on this day, you need to pay your GST and your second provisional tax payment. So start planning now! Otherwise, you won't be able to have that holiday you're hanging out for. Instead, you'll be scrambling to find the cashflow to cover wages and tax, while everyone else enjoys themselves. And really, you should always be prepared for your tax deadlines. Otherwise you'll never get to relax, and that's no fun!
