Summer favourites are among the foods that saw significant year-on-year price falls at Foodstuffs supermarkets in November, according to our latest food price inflation (FPI) data. Both Foodstuffs’ and Stats’ FPI baskets were up 1.3% year on year – the ninth consecutive month both have been under 1.5%. In time for BBQ season, precooked sausages were 10% cheaper and pork loin chops down 8%; carrots and cabbage for coleslaw down 23% and 11%, respectively; and strawberries 7% cheaper. Foodstuffs’ produce experts say after months of good spring weather there are bumper supplies of many fruits and vegetables heading into Christmas. Our trial of facial recognition has reduced serious harm by 16% across our 25 trial stores, preventing over 100 serious events like assaults. An independent evaluation found the benefits outweigh the risks, with strong public support for use of the technology. While retail crime incidents have risen 41% YoY, this trial shows the potential for FR to reduce harm and improve safety by helping identify repeat offenders. We’re awaiting the Privacy Commissioner’s public inquiry before deciding on future use. 🚨 Important update for our Auckland region customers 🚨 Starting December 9, alcohol sales instore at 59 PAK’nSAVE, New World and 4 Square stores across the Auckland region will close at 9pm each night in line with Auckland Council’s new Local Alcohol Policy, even though most of these stores have a later closing time. We’re committed to ensuring compliance with the new policy while supporting our teams as they adapt to these changes. To make the transition easier, we’ll be posting clear signage in stores, providing reminders over the PA system, and helping everyone prepare for the new 9pm alcohol sales cutoff. We have also calibrated point-of-sale systems so checkouts will only accept alcohol sales within the legal hours. We appreciate your patience and ask that you remember our team members are here to help! Thank you for your understanding. 🌱 Foodstuffs Support Centre earns ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐NABERSNZ rating 🌍 We’re thrilled to announce that our Landing Drive Support Centre has just achieved a NABERSNZ ‘Whole Building’ rating from NZGBC – and not just any rating, but 5 out of 6 stars. This means our head office is performing at a market-leading level for energy efficiency, and among an elite group of less than a handful of buildings to achieve a 5 or above in all four ratings, for its design, build, fitout, and ongoing performance. Backed by EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority), NABERSNZ measures energy use during a building’s operational phase, going beyond construction sustainability ratings. This achievement highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing our energy footprint and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for all Kiwis. With solar panels on our Distribution Centre roof supplying part of our power and continuous monitoring of our energy use, we’re easing pressure on the national grid and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. 🌟 Big shout-out to our amazing Property team. Special thanks to @Andrew Reynolds, the Foodstuffs Facilities team, FMANZ - Facilities Management Association of New Zealand and Direct Control Limited for their expertise in the NABERSNZ assessment and for continually fine-tuning our building's energy efficiency. 🙌 A huge thank-you to the wider Landing Drive staff for valuable feedback on lighting, air-conditioning, EV charging and more - every bit helps us improve. 🏆 The Support Centre’s performance backs up its sustainable credentials, having been awarded a 5 Star Green Star Design rating for the building’s design, a 6 Star Green Star Built rating for its construction, and a 6 Star Green Star Interiors rating for the fitout. We’re committed to ongoing improvements because being environmentally conscious matters - to us, our customers, and our Taiao (environment). 🌿 🛒 When you shop at Foodstuffs, you’re supporting a company that’s making real sustainability efforts behind the scenes. 👉 Check out our solar performance in real-time: https://lnkd.in/dXTMZMYw 🌐 Learn more on our website: https://lnkd.in/dUfnbw3f #FoodstuffsNZ #Sustainability #NABERSNZ #EnergyEfficiency #ProudlyKiwiOwned #NZGBC #HereForNZ Chris Quin Catherine Tardif Cindy Chaimowitz Dominic Quin Jo Allan Jonathan Box Julian Benefield Lindsay Rowles Lisa Oldershaw Simon Kennedy Wendy Hammonds Joanne van den Berg Jonathan Box Andrew Reynolds Andrew Gaukrodger Willa Hand Stefan Herrick Esther Gordon Clinton Rowling Sonia Beal Sophie Parish

This week, our CEO Chris Quin joined Kerre Woodham on Newstalk ZB to talk about all things grocery – including security in supermarkets, competition in the grocery industry, regulation and how Foodstuffs North Island balances the need to pay suppliers a fair price while delivering the lowest possible prices at the checkout. Chris took the opportunity to announce that Foodstuffs North Island and Foodstuffs South Island would appeal the Commerce Commission’s decision to decline the co-ops’ application to merge into a nation-wide co-op. Grocery is a low margin, high-volume game, and creating efficiencies in the business – no matter how small – all impacts on our stores’ ability to keep prices low. Chris told Kerre that bringing the co-ops together, removing duplication and streamlining processes, was the single biggest thing the co-ops could do to make their businesses more efficient - help us keep prices more competitive, improve the shopping experience, invest in innovation and ensure better access to fresh, affordable food for all Kiwis.
