Congratulations to our fabulous Women in Finance 2024 attendees - thanks to you we raised a whopping $17,000 for Good Shepherd New Zealand and the work they do supporting women in need. This is more than double the amount raised last year. We literally couldn't put on this event without affiliate members Equifax New Zealand (platinum sponsor) and DebtManagers, Alfa Financial Software, Finzsoft Solutions Limited, and Nissan Financial Services Australia (gold). Thank you to you and the other generous brands and companies that donated prizes. We're already excited for next year! #FSFWomenInFinance24

In partnership with Good Shepherd New Zealand, we are co-designing a Code of Practice to help members recognise the signs of economic abuse, either at loan origination or throughout the life of the loan, and guidance as to how to respond. Next week, Good Shepherd CEO Emma Saunders will speak at the Women in Finance Charity Luncheon in Auckland about some of the powerful stories of women they have helped. Spaces are still available for this special celebration on 5 December at the Cordis, more info here: https://lnkd.in/gBewwYdD #noexcuseforeconomicabuse #FSFWomeninFinance2024
Our International Economic Abuse Awareness Day event at Parliament was incredible! We heard from amazing speakers, announced a code of practice for lenders, and shared some early insights from Good Shepherd research. More on our wonderful speakers tomorrow, but for now we want to recognise our collaboration with the Financial Services Federation. The code of practice we’re developing will help financial service providers give effective support and fair treatment to customers experiencing economic harm due to family violence. Find out more about our event and code here: https://lnkd.in/eCkeZV4C #NoExcuseForEconomicAbuse

So great to see several FSF members mentioned in this article about how specialist lenders can offer a more individual, focused service than traditional sources of finance. “Private credit is reshaping lending in New Zealand as more people turn away from banks who can’t and, in many cases, won’t offer mortgage flexibility. As a result a “no” from the bank no longer means “game over”. “ First Mortgage Trust, Basecorp Finance, Pepper Money ANZ, Avanti Finance

Banking competition is under the spotlight, see our Executive Director Lyn McMorran CAE highlight how the system could be improved to allow smaller players and specialist lenders to compete, and ultimately provide Kiwis more choice (12 minutes in): https://lnkd.in/gGzyue4z

Thanks for your excellent insights Andrew Suggate, Sarah Jackson and Katie Rawlinson, on the regulatory changes and possible fishhooks on the horizon for lenders in New Zealand.
Really enjoyed taking part in a panel discussion at the Financial Services Federation conference on Tuesday, along with Sarah Jackson and Katie Rawlinson, and ably facilitated by Lyn McMorran CAE. We discussed coming regulatory changes affecting the industry, including CCCFA, AML/CFT, CoFI and the significant implications for consumer lenders of the transition of oversight from the Commerce Commission to the FMA (including licensing). Followed on nicely from Andrew Bayly's outline of the financial services regulatory reform agenda, and Samantha Barrass's views of what the FMA's regulatory oversight approach will be, once they take over. This will be a significant change for all consumer lenders, get in touch if you want to discuss the implications for your business. Buddle Findlay Scott Abel

Thank you, Andrew Bayly (Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister), for speaking at FSF’s conference about the important work your team is doing to transform NZ’s overly complicated financial services regulatory system, and removing unnecessary barriers for everyday Kiwis accessing credit 👏
