Our vision is a world where every child can grow up in a safe and caring family.

About us

Family for Every Child is dedicated to a vision of a world where every child can grow up in a permanent, safe and caring family, supported by temporary, quality alternative care where needed. Fundamentally, we are driven by three strategic goals: 🌐 Enabling children to grow up in permanent, safe and caring families, and 🌐 Ensuring a range of high-quality alternative care choices 🌐 Taking steps to prevent children from having to live outside of any adult care, without the care of families or other carers, and in the interim protecting these boys and girls We are an alliance of national member organisations (local civil society organisations) which has grown to a network of now over 47 members in 38 countries around the world. Family for Every Child was developed to demonstrate a different way of doing international collaboration. It is premised on the importance of diverse and contextually informed knowledge from all parts of the globe being given equal value internationally. Although our members all grow independently, they are connected by a shared “root” system, tended to by a small team of Family for Every Child staff (the Secretariat). This makes each member more effective, and the network as a whole more resilient, because together, we’re more than the sum of our parts. We believe in collective leadership and working horizontally bringing together our member organisations, our Secretariat and our Boards. We are committed to becoming a model of ways of working that starts to decolonise the sector. We are determined to improve as an Alliance on this journey. Ours is a “future focused” model that will facilitate growth, change and impact in a sustainable way. We connect online, and have no physical offices. The majority of our governing body of trustees that forms the international Family for Every Child Board are members themselves.

Great to see these images from our member Taller De Vida (Colombia) rallying for support at the 1st World Ministerial Conference to End Violence Against Children, advocating for the #BlueUmbrellaDay campaign. • In 2024, we launched a new, innovative approach to delivering emergency aid, right to the scene of the disaster, and directly to those who are meeting the immediate needs of those impacted. 🏥 It’s called the Frontline Fund 🚨 It’s designed to deliver urgent funds directly to our members in a humanitarian crisis ⛑️ It demonstrates that local leadership makes all the difference 🚨 It proves that those on the ground are already meeting urgent needs 🏥 It fast tracks humanitarian aid In its first year, the Frontline Fund delivered critical support to women fleeing the Gaza conflict to Lebanon, it helped families fleeing in the Middle East to find shelter in Egypt and gave urgent backing to communities impacted by devastating floods in Kenya. A localised approach to humanitarian aid is critical. This fund will continue to deliver aid in 2025 and beyond. ⛑️ Find out more: https://buff.ly/4fkiLb5 #EmergencyAid #HumanitarianAid #ChildrenInNeed #DonateToday

  • In 2024, we backed Kinship Care like never before. Why? Because Kinship care – where children are cared for by family members other than their parents – is a lifeline for approximately one in ten children globally. In the past twelve months, we’ve made big moves in this space, through the release of the first ever Kinship Care Guidance Paper, and through our Global Kinship Care campaign, which engaged thousands of people to better understand, support and kinship care as an alternative care for vulnerable children. 🎥 by our member Voice of Children in Nepal 🇳🇵 "The government should make good policies and solutions to keep the children in Kinship Care situations" 🚸 Read our blog: https://buff.ly/3Dt6Eeq 🚸 Discover our guidance paper: https://buff.ly/41CY4nv 🚸 Learn about Global Kinship Care Week: https://buff.ly/41xOaDK #KinshipCare #GlobalKinshipCareWeek #SupportKinshipCare

  • As 2024 draws to a close, we are (like so many) reflecting on the twelve months gone by. It has been a year of growth and impact – our community expanded, advocacy campaigns spread further than ever before, we rallied for policy and law reform, raised funds for those in critical need and helped keep more children connected to safe and caring families. Meanwhile, our online platform Changemakers for Children grew by 18%, with over 700 new members joining! This safe, digital space is critical for fostering collaboration, practice exchange and connection between civil society organisations and child protection professionals around the globe. Together, we are stronger. Thank you, for all who have come on board and engaged – you make this community what it is. 🔗 🌐 https://buff.ly/3ZWMHFM #EndofYear #Impact #ChangeMakersForChildren #FamilyForEveryChild 📸 Image credit to our member Taller De Vida in Colombia 🇨🇴

  • 📍Aotearoa, New Zealand 🇳🇿 An incredible initiative has just launched in New Zealand, supported by our member organisation VOYCE Whakarongo Mai, setting an example of how the voices of those with experience can shape solutions to improve outcomes for children and young people in their communities! TE4CL - Tertiary Education 4 Care Leavers - is an initiative that offers support to care experienced young people to access tertiary education, encouraging them to be aspirational about their future and their education. Family feels honoured to have VOYCE Whakarongo Mai in our global alliance, and congratulate Isaac Heron (who sits on VOYCE’s board) for being a key part of bringing this vision of TE4CL to life. Check out the resources on their website for care leavers, and those supporting them, including tertiary institutions: https://te4cl-nz.org/ #CareLeavers #CareSystemReform #RightToEducation
