🚀 CfD AUCTION SUCCESS IN ROMANIA 🚀
We are proud to announce that Rezolv Energy has been confirmed as one of the winners in the first contracts for difference (CfD) auction organised by the Romanian Ministry of Energy. The success of our bid, for our VIFOR wind farm in Buzău, would not have been possible without the support and experience of Actis, whose know-how from bidding successfully in CfD auctions across the world was invaluable.
With development risk in the past, Phase I construction proceeding well, and financing in place and advanced (even for Phase 2), the scale of the VIFOR when completed – at 450MW, it will be one of the largest new generation wind farms in Europe – means that Rezolv is in a position to offer the most competitive CfD prices in the region.
This is the culmination of a huge six months for VIFOR:
- In June, we confirmed finance loan facilities of up to €291 million to support the Phase 1 construction of the project. The consortium of eight lenders was led by Erste Group, UniCredit and the EBRD, as well as the IFC - International Finance Corporation, Intesa Sanpaolo, OTP Bank Magyarország, Raiffeisen Bank International AG and Garanti BBVA Romania.
- A few days later, we announced that Vestas had been selected as the EPC partner for the first phase of VIFOR. On the same day, we broke ground at the project site.
- Since June, we have also signed five virtual PPAs connected to VIFOR – covering 350GWh per year. They have catapulted Rezolv into the position of market leader when it comes to PPAs in the Balkans and have put South Eastern Europe on the European map for renewable energy procurement.
This CfD auction success is also a strong vote of confidence in Rezolv’s sustainability strategy, which builds on industry best practice and aligns with international standards. These standards are the most robust in the industry and, in many areas, go well beyond the requirements set down by Romanian law. That sustainability strategy is already being rolled out at VIFOR, and will continue delivering impact throughout the full lifecycle of the project.
Building on this, with the 600MW Dunarea East & West wind farms and the 1,044MW Dama Solar project – which will be the largest solar project anywhere in Europe once it is operational – due to be constructed in 2026 and 2027, Rezolv can continue to bring the largest projects onstream, accelerating Romania’s transition to becoming the greenest country in Europe by 2030. At the same time, they will provide affordable, secure, clean energy to Romania’s industry and communities. Working with Europe’s best OEMs and construction firms, and in close cooperation with local communities, we can continue delivering Europe’s best renewable projects.
Huge congratulations to everyone in the team who contributed to this success!
