Over the past two weeks, we’ve had the privilege of connecting with inspiring founders from Digital Social Innovation (DSI) teams across sub-Saharan Africa. Their groundbreaking work in agriculture, education, health, and fintech is not only tackling pressing societal challenges but also driving sustainable economic growth. From revolutionizing supply chains in agritech to expanding access to financial services, these innovators are reshaping industries and transforming communities. A recurring theme in our discussions has been the need for data-driven investments to scale their impact — aligning perfectly with our mission to bridge the gap between brilliant ideas and sustainable funding. Through the Think Like an Investor program, a project supported by D4DHub, we aim to equip DSI founders with tools and insights to become investor-ready. By fostering data-driven strategies, we can ensure investments generate meaningful returns, drive social change, and contribute to Africa’s digital transformation. The potential of these DSI teams is truly exciting, and their success will create ripples of positive impact across the continent. What role do you think data-driven strategies play in shaping impactful investments? Bridging Innovation Between Silicon Valley and Africa This week, I represented Remode at the Silicon Xchange conference—a groundbreaking platform designed to connect the innovation ecosystems of Silicon Valley and Africa. Beyond the dynamic conversations around technology and entrepreneurship, one topic stood out: AI Geopolitics and where Africa stands in shaping its trajectory. Key reflections from the conference: Collaboration is Key: As AI reshapes the global landscape, collaboration between tech hubs like Silicon Valley and Africa is vital to ensure equitable access and influence in shaping AI's future. Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities position it as a critical player in the global AI conversation. Africa’s Time is Now: With a thriving startup ecosystem, immense talent pool, and untapped potential, Africa is at the forefront of the next wave of global innovation. The Power of Purpose: Technological advancements must serve a greater purpose—creating solutions that drive inclusivity, sustainability, and empowerment. Africa’s Rising Role in AI: With a growing talent pool, thriving innovation hubs, and bold public and private sector initiatives, Africa is carving its niche in the AI ecosystem. Countries like Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa are leading efforts in applying AI to sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and fintech. The Stakes are Global: AI isn’t just a tool—it’s a geopolitical force. The decisions made today on AI development, regulation, and ethics will define global power structures for decades. Africa must assert its voice in these discussions to ensure its perspectives and needs are represented. A huge thank you to the Silicon Xchange organizers, speakers, and participants for fostering such forward-thinking dialogue. Remode

🌍 Unlocking Opportunities: Finnish Companies Exploring East Africa Through Rwanda 🇫🇮🤝🇷🇼 Yesterday, we wrapped up an extraordinary event designed to equip Finnish businesses with the tools, insights, and connections they need to thrive in East Africa’s dynamic market—with Rwanda as a strategic gateway. The energy in the room was undeniable, with participants from about 40 institutions, including private companies, government entities, NGOs, educational organizations, and investors, all coming together to forge meaningful collaborations. Our key takeaways: High-Growth Opportunities: East Africa continues to outpace other African regions, averaging 5-6% growth, 1-2 percentage points higher than the closest competitor. With half a billion consumers, this region is brimming with potential. A Business-Friendly Gateway: Rwanda continues to amaze as a hub of opportunity. 2nd in Africa for ease of doing business; 1st in government transparency; 1st in network readiness; A growing hub for scaleups that are shaping the continent’s future and more. These points, highlighted by Ambassador Diane Gashumba, resonated deeply with participants and underscored Rwanda’s role as a strategic gateway. Partnerships That Matter: From consortium-building to navigating funding opportunities, attendees gained actionable tools to launch their East African ventures. A special mention to Birgit Nevala for shedding light on innovative instruments that support market entry and drive growth. Cultural and Business Connections: Participants were treated to the vibrant flavors of East Africa, thanks to Chef Demba Sillah, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. Beyond the delicious cuisine, every attendee had the opportunity to present their work, leaving a lasting impression and fostering seamless connections. The event featured inspiring contributions from industry leaders and experts. A special thank you to our very own Co-Founder/CEO Pierre Jallow for leading discussions on the "why" and "how" of entering East African markets; Seth Ndayishimye Chairman and Founder of HillsConnect, and Kevin Manzi of Manzi Finance Ltd for their thought-provoking case studies that brought real-world insights to life. 🌍 Meet Florence Yula, our incredible Country Manager at Remode bridging #Europe and #Africa with innovation, investment, and a passion for empowering startups to drive Africa’s growth story 🚀. Thank you to A&A Collective for this feature #AAMemberMoments #AfricaVC #ImpactInvestment
Welcome to Humans of A&A 👨🏽💼👩🏽💼 ⚡A&A Member Moments: Florence Yula⚡ Meet Florence Yula (FMVA), the powerhouse bridging the gap between Europe and Africa 🌍. As Country Manager at Remode, Florence drives investments from the Nordics, Baltics, and DACH straight into Africa’s buzzing ecosystem 🚀. She’s all about innovation, collaboration, and giving startups the tools they need to level up. With a career spanning digital innovation, strategic partnerships, and capacity building, Florence has done it all – from prepping startups for funding to championing data governance (because yes, that matters too!) and strengthening AU-EU ties 🤝. She’s also made her first angel investment – a milestone that solidifies her place as a true believer in Africa’s potential. And if you let her, she’ll talk your ear off about why Africa needs to rely less on the West and the East. Spoiler: She’s not wrong. Florence is on a mission to shift Africa from a consumer mindset to a creator mindset 🧠✨. She’s constantly asking the big questions about how the continent can take control of its narrative and build a future that’s truly independent. 💡 Fun fact: Despite her super-connector energy, Florence admits she’s “a tad bit introverted” and mirrors people’s personalities to connect. When it comes to ecosystem involvement, Florence is in all the important rooms – from AU and EU initiatives to shaping investment flows that drive real impact 🌍. Basically, if it’s about Africa’s growth, Florence is already on it. Catch her if you can – Florence’s energy is unmatched, and she’s always up for a good conversation about innovation, investment, or how to shift the continent’s mindset 📩. #AACollective #AAMemberMoments #AfricaVC #ImpactInvestment #VC #AfricaTech #InvestAfrica
