Germany's 30 by 2030! We are proud to share that our Co-CEO and Co-founder, Dr. Jan Goetz, has been named to the 30 by 2030 list for 2024 by WirtschaftsWoche, a German business news magazine. According to the magazine, this is the first time they are honouring 30 people who inspire courage with their ideas, projects, and companies that will shape, change, and move the country forward in the coming years. This recognition is a testament to Goetz’s remarkable journey as a founder and innovator, marking a significant milestone in his career and for IQM. “I am humbled to be among so many other brilliant minds and great people. I encourage everyone to have a positive mindset and build something big that creates value,” says Goetz. Europe's most powerful quantum computer comes to Germany! In collaboration with our partners, we held a media briefing in Munich to shed light on our systems to be integrated into the high-performance computing infrastructure at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ). The 54-qubit and 150-qubit systems, which will be installed in the second half of 2025 and by the end of 2026, respectively, will be accessed by end-users from industry across Europe. Together with Bavarian State Minister for Science and Art Markus Blume, Prof. Dr. Dieter Kranzlmueller, Chairman of the Board of Directors at LRZ, and our Co-CEO Dr. Jan Goetz, they spoke to the media about how the system would spur research in Bavaria and beyond. #IQM #QuantumComputing #HPC #Germany #Bavaria Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts Markus Bendele, PhD Chantall M. We are delighted to share that the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative (DLR QCI) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has selected IQM to develop quantum embedding algorithms for the simulation of materials science. Embedding methods constitute a promising approach for using the current Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) computers to analyse, otherwise, prohibitively large-scale solid-state system, taking into account quantum correlations only on a limited scale. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2026, will develop and test the quantum algorithms on our quantum cloud platform, IQM Resonance. “With our world-class technical knowledge and experience in both the application of embedding methods and the development of new approaches, we are ready to advance our understanding of strongly correlated systems. These are crucial for research and industry applications in solid state physics and quantum chemistry,” says Dr. Inés De Vega, our Vice President for Quantum Solutions. Designing the next generation of quantum processors! As quantum computing moves closer to real-world applications, a key challenge remains: advancing the understanding of environmental noise and developing effective strategies to mitigate its impact. In our latest blog, our Senior Quantum Engineer, Dr. Amin Hosseinkhani, uncovers a critical yet often overlooked source of error in two-qubit CZ gates within tunable-coupler transmon architectures: charge-parity switching effects caused by quasiparticle excitations. By incorporating this newly identified error mechanism into a comprehensive noise model, we present a systematic approach to identifying optimal ranges for qubit design parameters, paving the way to maximize the performance of the next generation of quantum processors.
