Establishing an institutional mechanism for an inclusive youth engagement in climate policy amongst youth-led NGOs
About us
YCC is an institutional mechanism for the youth climate movement in Ghana. The YCC is a formal mechanism to collect and bring the opinions of youth CSOs, young people, and the public into national climate-related decision-making processes. The YCC is an independent youth group sourced from existing youth-climate NGOs and given the political power to make input into all national climate policies as an equal stakeholder. While the YCC will serve all young people and the general public, for security and wellbeing purposes, participation as a member of the Council is limited to youth between the ages of 18 – 35 years.

There is talent. There is will. There is ambition. Joshua Amponsem questions global preparedness for the green transition if the most abundant resource for the transition remains untapped’; Africa’s workforce Explore how enabling policies, revised financial mechanisms, and technical education can position Africa and the #GlobalSouth as the leaders of the just transition in this TED Countdown. How are you enabling youth leadership in the Global South? #YouthLeadership #JustTransition #AfricaLeads
Did you know that 78% of all funding dedicated to climate research in Africa between 1990 - 2020 ended up in Global North institutions? Think about this: how can equitable climate action be achieved when some populations suffer the impacts of #climatechange and others make opportunities from it? My TED Talk is officially out and I am happy to share it with all of you. From the first time I learned about climate change, to the various work I have done in this field to advance climate action, I share about the “absurd inequality of climate work” and share changes in three sectors - Academia, Finance and Policy - that are needed to “fix it” to create a new vision for #youth and #GlobalSouth leadership in this green transition. https://lnkd.in/d2vjdTJF Viewer Discretion Advised 🙈 📺 : We’re diving into the heart of climate action and uncovering the cracks where inequality festers. If you’re someone who prefers to sidestep conversations about privilege, global power imbalances, or how climate action often wears the cloak of neocolonialism—brace yourself. And if you’re sceptical about the bold leadership of young people in driving change, well, prepare to have your expectations flipped. Growth starts with discomfort, and this talk will challenge assumptions, rattle norms, and inspire action for an equitable and greener future. You’ve been advised (and warmly welcomed). 🤝🏾 Thanks to the amazing team at TED Countdown team for making this possible Maryam Pasha Nicole Ng Lindsay Levin David Biello Suzana V.
