Exciting News! 🌊 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of "Building coastal resilience through collective philanthropy," as part of the Ocean Titans documentary series with the World Ocean Council in partnership with Reuters. This film showcases the incredible work being done by our UBS Climate Collective. The collective aims to tackle climate change by focusing on the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems like mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes. These ecosystems capture carbon at rates far higher than tropical rainforests and provide vital protection against rising seas and storms. However, they are disappearing rapidly, threatening biodiversity and climate stability. By bringing together local communities, environmental experts, and philanthropists, we work to support nature-based solutions that reduce carbon emissions, protect biodiversity, and enhance livelihoods. More than half of the world’s population are still not covered by essential health services. Over 600 million youth globally lack basic mathematics and literacy skills. And new high records continue to be set for global GHG emissions and atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2). Yet, we’re not seeing the levels of funding needed to solve these issues or the many others targeted by the #UNSDGs. Development and climate finance clearly need more funding. If we can find a way to engage the deep and vast capital markets better for social and environmental projects, there is an opportunity to bridge this development and climate finance gap. Did you know that more than half of Indonesia’s land mass is covered by forests? This puts the country at the frontline of the global fight against climate change. On a recent client climate insights trip to Indonesia, our team was able to catch up with terratai, one of our partners in the region who’s driving forward innovative nature-based solutions.
