Good news for creators: WIPO has joined ISNI International Agency as a registration agency. Through this partnership, contributors to creative works represented by Collective Management Organizations using WIPO Connect (WIPO's multi-rights back-office IT solution that helps manage copyrights and related rights) can receive a globally recognized ISNI identifier. This ensures creators are better identified, facilitating a fair and accurate royalties distribution. This new partnership complements WIPO’s existing agreements on performers' rights with SCAPR (the Societies' Council for the Collective Management of Performers' Rights) and authors' rights with CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers). Malawi has become the first country to ratify the WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge. Adopted on May 24, 2024, this is the first WIPO Treaty to address the interface between intellectual property, genetic resources, and traditional knowledge. The Treaty will come into effect once 15 instruments of ratification or accession have been presented to WIPO.
