It has been a few weeks since my last post, and like many others in our #datacenter industry it has been a whirlwind of opportunities, challenges and tasks to ensure that Green Mountain AS - Data centres continue to grow. It is now 3.5 years since we were acquired, and at that time we had 25 MW of operational capacity, today we have more than 150 MW and with planned significant growth. It is crazy to think back that we at that time in 2021 had 2 cases in the funnel of more than 10 MW, now we only have a tenfold that is less. The capacity has gone from kW and colocation rooms, to colocation now being a floor or a building - but where many cases are for full campuses. Not just to hyperscalers, but AI and HPC cases which over these years has gone from asking us for 1 MW - to now looking for 100+ and forever homes. In a few weeks the year is coming to an end. It has been an amazing one where we have gone live with our 90 MW OSL2 Hamar project, we have opened new capacity at all of our 4 facilities in Norway, we have build projects in both Germany and the UK. We have also secured new capacity with powered land to ensure we can continue to grow with our clients both short, mid and long-term. Breaking News!! 400MW of AI-compatible infrastructure is coming to France. After months of confidential development, BSO is proud to announce the creation of DataOne, Europe’s first giga-scale AI hosting infrastructure data centre. By 2028, DataOne will deliver 400MW of AI-compatible infrastructure, becoming the largest data center in Europe. Deployment Timeline: April 2025: Launch of 80MW capacity, following 16 weeks of transformation work, establishing Europe’s largest AI-focused data centre. Q4 2026: Expansion to 200MW capacity. Late 2028: Completion with 400MW operational capacity. The facility will feature direct liquid-cooled Facilities Distribution Units (FDUs) capable of hosting power densities ranging from 60 to 250KW per rack. The AI revolution continues..

Nvidia is one of the great stories in the history of technology. Over the last 20+ years, they’ve positioned themselves for the rise of AI with their investments in software (CUDA), networking (Mellanox), and integrated computing (servers). Today, they dominate AI workloads, and we're starting to see competition emerge to challenge for a piece of the market. I mapped out the value chain and competitive landscape below. It’s particularly interesting to see the rise of inference-focused and model/architecture-focused chips that aim to improve performance through chip specialization. Platforms that can help facilitate faster chip design should benefit from this trend. Finally, if small models and edge hardware improve enough, inference at the edge could become viable. Meta Unveils 140kW Liquid-Cooled AI Rack - At the Open Compute Summit, Meta Engineering has shared its Catalina rack design for high-density AI computing. The Orv3 design is optimized for the NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip, and will support up to 140kW of capacity using liquid cooling, Meta says. "Scaling AI at this speed requires open hardware solutions," the Meta team writes. "Developing new architectures, network fabrics, and system designs is the most efficient and impactful when we can build it on principles of openness.
