We are thrilled to announce the six exceptional final winners and catalysts of the 2024 Humans In Space Challenge, pioneering advancements in Space Healthcare. These innovators have completed a rigorous evaluation process, which included the Virtual Pitch Event and the final pitch at the 2024 Humans In Space Final Pitch Competition, co-hosted with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Milan, Italy. Four teams from the eleven 2nd-round winners who reached the final stage were selected based on detailed evaluations by esteemed experts from the space and healthcare sectors, alongside the Humans In Space Team. [2024 Humans In Space Challenge Final Winners & Catalyst] 1. Orbital Launch Funding: • Charles Chiu: Marks the first application of mNGS technology in space, suggesting that the space-based approach could advance future research on cancer and immune diseases 2. Equity Investment: • Ejenta: Develops AI-based clinical decision support system to provide remote health monitoring and management on Earth and in Space • Exobiosphere: Accelerates drug development in extraterrestrial settings by leveraging the HTS technology to expedite the validation of new drug candidates in the space environment • Prometheus Life Technologies: Develops high-quality organoids for use in space-based medical research and regenerative medicine 3. Humans In Space Catalyst • JangKeun Kim: Aims to develop the first space gene perturbation dictionary • Scott Ritter: Facilitates real-time, autonomous SANS monitoring and diagnosis in low Earth orbit and deep space missions The final winners will receive financial support of $50,000 in Equity Investment and up to $250,000 in Orbital Launch Funding to advance their ideas and conduct in-orbit research, ultimately aiming to commercialize space. Teams selected as HIS Catalysts will be provided with 12-month tailored support and mentorship to further develop their ideas. Upon successful completion of specific milestones, they will be eligible for funding to send their innovations to orbit.
