Info
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is the world's leading independent international medical relief organization, implementing and managing medical projects in close to 72 countries worldwide and as a worldwide movement of 25 associations, 24 sections, 17 offices and 6 operational entities. Our work focuses on emergency medical and humanitarian relief. We are guided by the principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality, as described in the MSF Charter. We implement our medical programs in areas where no health or sanitary systems exist, or where health structures are overwhelmed by the needs of populations. For 50 years, we have been providing medical assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, natural disasters, disease epidemics, malnutrition crises and other emergencies. We offer medical and humanitarian assistance to people based on their needs - irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. We observe neutrality in situations of conflict, and impartiality in the name of medical ethics. To ensure our independence, the majority of our funding is provided by private donations from members of the public. Additional funding may come from foundations, governments and international institutions.

“The recent military offensive in the north is a stark illustration of the brutal war the Israeli forces are waging on Gaza, and we are seeing clear signs of ethnic cleansing...” - Chris Lockyear, MSF secretary general. A ceasefire is needed now to save Palestinian lives. More in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/gf9h8_5U

Airstrikes. Shelling. Incursions into hospitals. Our staff have endured 41 of these attacks and violent incidents by the Israeli forces in Gaza in the last year. Israel’s allies must act now to protect Palestinians and uphold the rules of war. Our latest report: https://lnkd.in/gf9h8_5U

We're talking children with amputations that can be much better managed outside of Gaza. Why forbid a 4-year-old child to leave [Gaza] when they know very well that this child has no hope of survival because of the war that's going on? They should be able to leave. We’ve been bearing witness since 1971. And on 10 December 1999, Dr James Orbinski explained to the whole world why we do so during our acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize. 25 years on, we are still committed to bearing witness. Because, as our colleagues say today in this re-creation of the speech, “We are not sure that words save lives, but we know that silence can certainly kill.”

Yesterday, Israeli forces enforced the evacuation of thousands of people in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. For the past two months, people living in Beit Lahia as well as Beit Hanoun, and Jabalia in the North Gaza governorate have been trapped by Israeli forces’ relentless bombing or forced to evacuate under extremely unsafe conditions. The only choice is to either to remain under bombs or attempt to leave and assume major risks: being arrested or turned away at checkpoints by Israeli forces, or worse, killed. Our teams in Gaza City have witnessed people arriving in horrifying and heartbreaking condition after traveling for hours on foot under difficult conditions. Here, our staff member describes the physical, mental, and emotional toll endured by thousands of Palestinians now displaced in Gaza City.

What’s the situation on the ground in Gaza ❓ What are the consequences of Israel's aid obstruction ❓ What does the onset of winter mean for people ❓ We asked these 3 questions to Caroline Seguin, our emergency coordinator in Gaza, Palestine. Here are her answers: https://lnkd.in/evfzK5fP

Returning to Lebanon: On November 26, 2024, thousands of families that were forcefully displaced by conflict started to return to their homes in southern and eastern parts of Lebanon after an agreement was reached between Israel and Hezbollah. Villages and cities that were once flourishing have been destroyed by Israeli bombardments and incursions. As a response, our teams in Bekaa and El Nabatieh governorates are working in mobile clinics to provide primary health care and distribute non-food items like blankets, mattresses, and even plastic sheets for people to use over broken windows. With temperatures dropping in the winter months, these items are becoming more and more essential. Our project coordinator in Bekaa reflected on the devastation left behind and explained why this humanitarian crisis is far from over.
