It has been a thoroughly rewarding past two months working with CYNK🌍, Africa's first digital climate technology platform. CYNK is transforming Africa’s carbon markets by connecting project developers directly with climate investors, using blockchain technology to ensure transparency, a full audit trail., and robust digital monitoring, reporting, and verification to guarantee high-quality, high-integrity carbon credits. During my time with CYNK, I've been able to contribute to this transformation in a number of ways. Two of my favourites include: - Producing a global market research report on sustainable aviation fuels, covering market due diligence, policy analysis, and the forecasting of future supply and demand. - Collaborating with the financing team to refine a presentation on CYNK's external governance structures for milestone verification in projects financed through securitised carbon credits. Living and working in Nairobi has given me many new experiences, and it’s been an incredible time working with such an innovative team, driving impact and advancing sustainable development across the continent. Thank you to the entire team for being so welcoming, and I'm excited to see how CYNK continues to lead the way in climate action!

Congratulations Ahmad Tea on receiving The King's Awards for Enterprise. At Ruby Cup, we were honoured to celebrate this achievement with you. Ahmad Tea supports thousands of women working in their tea gardens in Kenya. Through educational workshops on female and menstrual health, and by providing Ruby Cup menstrual cups, they are helping create a lasting solution that improves comfort at work and saves their workers a significant amount of money, while having a positive impact on the environment.

Nairobi-based climate startup Flux has sold Africa’s first carbon dioxide removal credits using crushed basalt — volcanic rock, Bloomberg reports. The trade, made on Kenya’s CYNK platform, saw the company presell credits based on the future removal of 540 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere to Milkywire Climate Transformation Fund for USD 370 per ton. Flux’s initial project involves spreading basalt on a 600-hectare sugar cane plantation in Kenya. The company has also signed agreements to implement the technique in Nigeria and Cameroon. In Nigeria, Flux will collaborate with the government, while in Cameroon, it will work with an agribusiness to spread basalt across 205k hectares of cornfields.
