As we grow, it's essential to ensure our newest colleagues understand the foundational concepts critical to our daily project work. At our Athens office, we hosted an internal "Data Modeling Foundations" training for new joiners and team members seeking a refresher. The session covered key topics such as: 1️⃣ Data Platform Explored the architecture, layers, and data flow, highlighting the characteristics that ensure efficient and scalable data management. 2️⃣ Keys & Identifiers Discussed the importance of data profiling and understanding different identifiers in tables, along with their roles in data analysis. 3️⃣ Normalization Reviewed the 3 normal forms and why normalization is crucial for consistency, integrity, and efficient data storage. 4️⃣ Dimensions & Facts Covered their key characteristics, use cases, and how they form the backbone of analytical models. 5️⃣ Architecture Compared snowflake and star schemas across structure, complexity, performance, scalability, and storage to understand their use in real-world scenarios. 6️⃣ Slowly Changing Dimensions Analyzed the 4 types of SCDs to learn how to effectively manage historical data in evolving datasets. At this month’s Team Meeting, we presented four topics: 🤖 A client started a transformation to become the agile, AI-driven leader in global insurance. The challenge: #Implementing #AI is more demanding than deploying a new ERP. They need to manage complexity, build a lean, scalable architecture and ensure adaptibility. Our focus: Architecting a central Data Management Layer to power AI and GenAI solutions. 🧬 Moritz introduced the new concept of “Information Permeability,” where he shows how optimized permeability enables companies to react more quickly to market demands, regulatory changes, and collaborative opportunities- ultimately creating a more innovative organization. The challenge: #fragemented #insights into IT services constrain future planning, auditing, and leadership steering due to limited information. We built and validated a prototype one-stop shop that delivers a comprehensive view of services, thereby enabling effective management for service owners and their stakeholders. 🧑💼 A client has experienced significant #leadership #changes, along with a new strategy aiming at optimizing costs and driving its key businesses’ growth. We were tasked to evaluate the existing architecture, model the costs for potential target states and provide recommendations. The future of healthcare is connected, data-driven, and collaborative—and we’re proud to be helping make that a reality. Data quality isn’t just about clean data — it’s about trust. When your analytics are driving business decisions, you can’t afford to hope your data is right. You need to know it is. These were (some of) our requirements on a recent project: 1️⃣ complete visibility in our data quality 2️⃣ rules that anyone can understand - not just developers 3️⃣ In-memory processing (quick and efficient) That’s when we turned to Great Expectations. This is a tool that helps you maintain high-quality data by automatically validating it against a set of rules, or “Expectations,” you define. Important: the rules can be defined in plain english, don't have to be code. This allows business people to work with it.
