Before and beyond Products... People! 👨🔬 👩🔬 This week, let's meet, Giulia Mazzucco PhD. Giulia joined our Team in November 2024 as R&D Scientist. She studied Biological Sciences at Università di Pavia and during her Master’s degree, she had the opportunity to work in a laboratory where Giulia developed a passion for research 🧬 . After completing her studies, she joined the IFOM Research Institute (Molecular Oncology Foundation Institute), where she spent 8 years and worked with electron microscopy 🔬 , which she focused on during her PhD, allowing her to publish her research work on an innovative protocol. At 4Bases SA Giulia is working on the development of new products while also dedicating herself to the optimization and updating of all kits. She loves her job and the fact that she has concrete goals to achieve. She believes that perseverance in her work is a key success factor, and that Companies like 4bases demonstrate that every achievement can lead to changes on a global scale. 4bases in 4 words for Giulia : innovative, proactive, dynamic, collaborative. A rare disease - by definition - is a disease that affects a very low proportion of the population: less than 0.05% (European Definition). However, there are many different rare diseases: more than 10'000 identified. So the number of people affected by one of these diseases is actually quite high: it is considered that more than 30 million people in the United Sates, 500'000 in Switzerland, suffer from a rare disease. As the vast majority of rare diseases do have a genetic origin, genomic analyses and genetic tests play a crucial role in our fight against them. Before and beyond Products... People! 👥 🤝 This week, let's meet Erica Gasparotto. Erica joined our Team in August 2024 as Application Specialist. She holds a PhD in Molecular Oncology obtained from the European School of Molecular Medicine (SEMM) and Università degli Studi di Milano. Before joining 4bases, she worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Molecular Genetics (INGM)  where she has specialized in NGS techniques. At 4bases she is in charge of supporting customers using the 4bases’kits and software. Erica travels a lot for work and this is something she enjoys. As an application specialist, she often travels to the clients to assist them step by step in following the protocol to facilitate the work in the lab. She studied molecular biology and genetics at Università di Pavia and started her career in Germany before doing her PhD at Universität zu Lübeck. She then worked in Frankfurt, providing technical support in the field of sequencing (both #Sanger and #NGS) and thereafter as a project manager on process optimization in #research and development laboratories before joining 4Bases. She studied Biology at Università degli Studi di Pavia and started her career in the lab where she had done her graduation thesis, in a clinical context, first on Sanger and then on NGS sequencing. She concomitantly attended a continuous educational program and specialized in clinical pathology and clinical biochemistry before joining 4bases. Her educational and professional journey brought her from being a user of genetic diagnostic tests to becoming a researcher and developer of innovative products.
