Advocacy in Action Our recent 3-day training in the Ngarannam community in Maiduguri brought advocacy to life! Participants gained essential skills to effectively engage with decision-makers and address their community's most pressing needs. From practical sessions to hands-on workshops, they learned how to raise awareness, secure funding, and rally support for initiatives that truly matter. These efforts include improving infrastructure like roads and public transport, ensuring access to quality education, and promoting peacebuilding programs that encourage conflict resolution and social cohesion. With their new skills, participants are ready to create meaningful change and build a brighter future for their community. This impactful training, sponsored by ActionAid Nigeria under the HDP Nexus project, was graced by the Lawan of Ngarannam, whose presence informs the importance of traditional leadership in driving local development. Building a Stronger Future Together At XPeace Associates, we believe in reaching communities and promoting development by empowering local voices. In December 2024, among the series of step-down trainings under the HDP Nexus project, we held a 3-day session at Ngomari community, a programme sponsored by ActionAid Nigeria. The focus was on enhancing community engagement through inclusive decision-making. The program brought together residents, community leaders, local organizations, and government representatives to foster open dialogue and collaboration. Together with the participants we identified pressing challenges and worked towards solutions that truly addressed the needs. This collaborative approach doesn’t just solve problems; it builds sustainable solutions that benefit everyone and strengthens the community for the long term. Empowering Communities Through Localization At XPeace Associates, we believe that sustainable change begins within the communities themselves. That’s why we champion localization in all our efforts, ensuring solutions are driven by the people they serve. In Decemeber 2024, we conducted training sessions in Gamboru Community under the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus framework. This program, sponsored by ActionAid Nigeria provided participants with practical skills and knowledge to address the unique challenges facing their communities. The training emphasized the interconnectedness of humanitarian aid, development, and peacebuilding, equipping participants with the tools to tackle both immediate crises and long-term issues. Together, we explored collaborative strategies, shared real-world examples, and worked through exercises designed to spark sustainable solutions. We're excited to have sponsored the BobaFest Book Reading Session held on the 27th of October, 2024. As part of our vision, mission, and core values, it is significant to support such initiatives that promote peace through appreciating our cultural diversity, pioneering innovations, and fostering collaborations, especially with communities. We were excited to sponsor an event that welcomed over 60 attendees from different walks of life. Young people had the opportunity to network, socialize, and appreciate the beauty of arts. The session also tackled the decline in the reading culture in the North through engaging book chats and book swaps. XPeace Associates had the honor of meeting with the Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Borno State on Oct 30, 2024. Our delegation led by Project Manager Fatima Muhammad Mafi has shared XPeace's vision to advance youth-centered peace initiatives. As a key part of the discussion, XPeace seeks to collaborate with the Borno State government on the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda, a resolution by the United Nations 2250. XPeace, for its localization efforts on peace and security, is set to fit the dynamic culture of Borno in domesticating the agenda. The honorable Commissioner of the ministry, Prof. Usman Tar voiced Gov. Zulum's commitment to youth as key players in peace, security, and development in Borno,and assures their supports as peace building remains top priorities of Zulum's Administration.
