In the field of artificial intelligence (AI), performance enhancement and innovation are largely dependent on the interplay of various models and technologies. With the ability to comprehend, produce, and modify human language from massive volumes of textual data, Large Language Models (LLMs) have completely changed natural language processing activities. However, two important elements that affect how well LLMs function are the calibre and variety of training data. Conversely, handwritten text recognition (HTR) models offer a useful tool for augmenting LLM training datasets since they are experts at turning handwritten text, scanned documents, and photos into machine-readable text. Tegence is training the first Nigerian HTR model and in this article, we have broken down the complementary relationship between Large Language Models (LLMs) and Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) models, emphasising how HTR may greatly enhance LLMs by augmenting their capabilities and providing richer training data. Over the weekend, users on X (formerly Twitter) noticed something new—a free version of Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, available in select regions, excluding Nigeria. While Grok has been exclusive to X Premium and Premium Plus subscribers, this trial version unlike Meta AI which is free, could signal that Musk’s company, xAI, is considering wider access to the AI tool. According to reports, X users with access, although it still has limitations, now can explore Grok’s powerful AI capabilities without needing a premium subscription. Users can: 1. Experiment with AI chat through Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini, gaining real-time responses and insights on topics of interest.    2. Try image analysis with up to three queries per day, adding a visual element to their AI experience. 3. Get a taste of premium AI features at no cost, allowing them to decide if upgrading to a paid plan is worth it for additional access. Overall, it’s a unique chance to see what AI on X offers and how it might enhance daily interactions on the platform. Nigerian Banks Upgrade Systems, But Are Customers Paying the Price? In a move to keep up with the rapidly changing banking landscape, several Nigerian banks recently upgraded their core banking systems. It all started with Sterling Bank on September 10, as they migrated to a new system called SeaBaaS. However, this transition was far from smooth—customers found themselves unable to access their funds for weeks, leading to widespread frustration. Soon after, other major players like Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), and First Bank followed suit, making similar upgrades. Unfortunately, these changes came at a cost. Service disruptions, failed transactions, and customers left stranded became common, impacting businesses and individuals alike. The disruptions reached a boiling point when scenes of GTB customers storming the bank’s branches across Nigeria surfaced. Frustrated and desperate, many gathered in large numbers, demanding answers and immediate access to their funds.
