Quality healthcare is not cheap, yet it must not become a 'commodity only for the rich'. This is why the government must continue to see itself as one of the major financiers, in ensuring this basic human right is accessible for all who need it anytime and anywhere. A healthy society is the backbone for a thriving economy, and on this #UniversalHealthCoverageDay, Talamus, as a champion and foremost driver of access to quality and affordable healthcare, lends her voice in calling on the government to deliberately improve on its budget and funding for healthcare at all levels. #HealthcareForAll #TalamusHealthCares #HealthToPeople #StrengthToSystems

If you're building a health tech product for African healthcare institutions, you must address the unique challenges they face. For example, in Nigeria, unreliable power supply and limited internet connectivity can significantly hinder usability. Designing software optimized for mobile devices and offering an offline mode for data entry can make a world of difference. Many institutions can't afford alternative power sources or consistent internet—how will they thrive with a tech product that doesn't adapt to their realities? But there's more. The most transformative health tech strategies aren't just institution-focused—they prioritize the patient experience. A patient-centric approach could revolutionize healthcare delivery in Africa, driving better outcomes and profitability for health tech companies. Innovating in this space means understanding the ecosystem deeply. Your product's success depends on your customers’ success—both institutions and the patients they serve. My friends at Talamus Nigeria have built an innovative health tech ecosystem and have developed an amazing patient app too. Do check it out.

Talamus Nigeria: Championing Digital Healthcare and Public Health Advocacy Recently, The Talamus Nigeria team, Taiwo Oluwafemi and Olalekan Folarin, had the privilege of participating in the National Stakeholders’ Roundtable on Digital Health, an event that brought together leading experts, policymakers, and health-tech innovators to shape the future of healthcare in Nigeria. As an organization, we take pride in being a foremost driver of public health advocacy and a champion of digital healthcare service delivery. This initiative aligns with our mission to leverage cutting-edge technology to transform healthcare access and outcomes across the country. The discussions at the roundtable reaffirmed the immense potential of digital health in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). From the Federal Government’s ambitious plan to digitize 169 healthcare facilities (160 Primary, 1 Secondary and 8 Tertiary), to exploring opportunities in electronic health records (EHR), telemedicine, and public-private partnerships (PPPs), the event was a testament to the strides being made towards a more connected and efficient healthcare ecosystem. We are proud to stand alongside other stakeholders such as The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, The World Bank Group, Marelize Gorgens Prestidge, Leke Ezekiel Ojewale MD, MPH, MSHI, MCSO, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., Olufunke Fasawe, and a host of other experts, in shaping the roadmap for Nigeria’s Digital Health Initiative (NDHI) and remain committed to driving innovation that impacts lives positively. Together, we are #BringingHealthtoPeople and #StrengthToSystems through a digitally empowered Nigeria. Joel Aderinto Murisiku (Muri) Raifu MD, MPA, FAANS
