We have achieved a significant milestone through the inauguration of the State Project Advisory Committee for the Court Administration and Case Management (CACM) project in Ebonyi State. The Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Elvis Ngene, expressed gratitude to PPDC and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs for extending the project to Ebonyi. He reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to the project’s success and urged the committee to surpass the achievements of the pilot states. During the event, Hon. Justice Frank Edem, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that members should view their service as a sacred duty to advance the state’s criminal justice system. Hon. Dr. Ben Uruchi Odoh, the Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, pledged full support from the State Ministry of Justice. Other institutional leaders also committed to working collaboratively to ensure the project’s success in Ebonyi State. #CACM #PPDC #justicereform

The fight against gender-based violence (GBV) is an enduring journey that cannot be confined to a single campaign or timeframe. As this year’s 16 Days of Activism comes to a close, we are reminded that the work is far from over. The urgency for action remains, and our resolve at PPDC to end GBV and empower women and communities only grows stronger. Throughout these 16 days, we focused on collaboration, policy advocacy, and amplifying the voices of survivors. This year as a part of the 16 days of activism campaign, we proudly partnered with the Sustainable Gender Initiative to extend our impact. Together, we carried out an outreach activity in Gwagwalada, connecting directly with the community, listening to their stories, and fostering hope through dialogue and support. We also organized the Young Voices Against Gender-Based Violence initiative at Aquila British School in Lugbe, where young minds came together in a powerful debate to challenge harmful norms and envision a future free from violence. Their passion and conviction were a profound reminder of why this fight matters and why we must keep pushing forward. A cornerstone of our ongoing efforts is promoting financial independence for women. When women have the autonomy and resources to make decisions about their lives, they gain the power to break free from cycles of abuse and build futures defined by dignity, security, and hope. At PPDC, our commitment to survivors remains steadfast. We will continue to amplify their voices, stand alongside them, and mobilize communities to create a safer, more just world. Every day is an opportunity for change, and we look forward to expanding our efforts, partnering with more allies, and making a deeper impact in the fight against GBV. To everyone who joined us during these 16 day we say thank you. Your support and unwavering passion are invaluable. Together, we will continue to demand change, push boundaries, and work towards a world where every woman can thrive without fear. #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence #genderbasedviolence #ppdc

On this Human Rights Day, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding justice and human dignity for every individual. Today, we reflect on the significant strides we've made in reforming Nigeria’s justice sector, particularly through our Court Administration and Case Management project, as well as the Reforming Pretrial Detention Phase II project, supported by U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL). These efforts reinforce our collective responsibility to advance access to justice—a fundamental human right central to equality and freedom. At PPDC, we advocate for the right of every person to access fair and transparent legal processes, particularly within marginalized communities. We believe that justice should be a universal right, not a privilege, accessible to all, irrespective of social, economic, or political status. As we honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, let us continue our work to dismantle the barriers that hinder equitable access to justice. From empowering citizens with legal knowledge to holding public institutions accountable, PPDC remains dedicated to creating a future where justice is not just a promise, but a reality for every Nigerian. Today, we stand united in the fight for justice, equality, and human rights—because justice for one is justice for all. #HumanRightsDay #AccessToJustice #PPDC #JusticeForAll

In our press release for #InternationalAntiCorruptionDay2024, we underscore the ongoing challenge of corruption within Nigeria’s public procurement processes. Despite the existence of key frameworks such as the Public Procurement Act, the World Bank’s State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) program, and various public finance management laws, inefficiencies, mismanagement, and fraud continue to divert vital public resources. These systemic issues not only erode public trust but also hinder fair business practices, limit oversight, and obstruct the government’s ability to deliver essential services, severely impacting Nigeria’s economic and social development. We recently conducted a monthly audit of the Numan Custodial Facility in Adamawa State as part of the Reforming Pretrial Detention in Nigeria Project Phase II. This visit provided critical insights into the facility’s operations, inmate population, and challenges faced. Housing 218 inmates, including 43 awaiting trial, the facility operates under severe constraints. Notably, the Assistant Controller of Corrections, Anthony Sanda, highlighted systemic issues such as insufficient medical supplies, limited uniforms leading to health concerns, and the lack of a proper data management system, forcing staff to rely on personal devices for record-keeping. Despite these challenges, the ACC has shown extraordinary dedication, personally covering some inmates’ fines to reduce overcrowding and advocating for non-custodial sentences for minor offenders. The audit emphasized the urgent need for systemic reforms, including improved healthcare resources, installation of a solar-powered borehole for water supply, deployment of a Correctional Information Management System (CIMS), and funding for inmate transportation to ensure access to justice. This activity strengthens our commitment to driving sustainable improvements in the justice system and creating a more rehabilitative environment for inmates. #reformingpretrialdetentioninnigeria #JusticeForAll #ppdc
