Today, Sen. Dr. Yunus Akintunde representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, paid a courtesy visit to former President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, at his residence in Daura. The visit followed his attendance at the wedding ceremony of the daughter of Distinguished Senator Nasir Sanni Zango Daura in the ancient city. During the visit, former President Buhari commended Sen. Akintunde for his contributions to national development and public service. He also urged Nigerians to exercise patience and perseverance as they navigate the tough but beneficial reforms introduced by the current administration.

The United Nations says the death toll in Mozambique has risen to at least 45 with hundreds others injured following the passage on Sunday of Tropical Cyclone Chido. More than 35 thousand houses were destroyed or severely damaged after winds of up to 260 kilometres an hour hit mainly Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces in the north. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says it has disbursed four million dollars in emergency aid for the estimated 181,000 people affected. Emergency teams are working to provide relief to displaced families and assess the full extent of the damage. The Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has dispatched a team to conduct “broader” investigations at Lake Chivero after fish and wildlife died from contamination. This is in response to the alarming levels of pollution in Lake Chivero, Harare’s primary water source, adversely affecting aquatic and wildlife life. Four white rhinoceros, three zebras, as well as birds and livestock, died as a result of drinking water that contained cyanobacteria.
