Today was one for the books as the Future of Health Youth Pre-Conference saw youths and stakeholders discuss #ClimateChange, its effect on health outcomes and how youths can help to drive conversations on the intersection between Climate change and Health. The opening address by Vivianne Ihekweazu, the managing director of Nigeria Health Watch emphasizes the need to include youths especially in Africa in these climate-driven conversations as the continent is predominantly young with 60% of the population being youth. Olumide Idowu (Mr. Climate) gave the keynote speech where he spoke on how the capacity of young people when it comes to #ClimateAction is not really recognized especially when it comes to policy implementation, ended with a charge to think global and act local when it comes to projects and a profound statement on how urgent Climate crisis is currently 'Climate Change is a time bomb and it will explode eventually'. Jennifer Anyanti FAPH, the Deputy managing director of Society for Family Health Nigeria who represented the Managing director, Omokhudu Idogho who mentioned amongst others the importance of climate education, leveraging technology for this and youths getting involved in community projects. The first panel session tagged 'Conversation with a policymaker' involved four fiery youths in respective fields engaging a policymaker Chris Ngwodo of Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE) on amplifying youth voices for climate action. The second panel session which is a fireside chat moderated by Ernesto O. Dibia, our engagement officer with four youths where holistic actions on climate action and how it affects mental health, food security and how we can surmount these. The day ended with two breakout sessions hosted by DRASA (Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh) Health Trust and Society for Family Health Nigeria where climate health and how we can do our part in driving climate action discussions and how to avoid making our planet further unhealthy with everyday unhealthy practices. An environment, they say, contributes greatly to the overall health of a plant. The right kind of soil, air, water, all come together to help the plant become all that it could possibly be. As medical laboratory scientists, our first source of nutrients and exposure to the professional environment comes from the graduate internship program. What is the current state of this environment? Are we getting the right kind of soil, air and water? Find out more here 👇🏾 https://shorturl.at/GWvdy
