Envisioning Animal Health

About us

Livestock diseases are the leading cause of losses to livestock farmers accounting for over 70% of the total damage. Unfortunately, the animal health system in Africa leaves little to be desired and goes a long way to adversely affect these farmers who are the lifeline of our local food system. For underserved communities, quality nutrition, potent vaccines, and safe biosecurity products are not easily accessible and if they do, they are very expensive driving the average cost of production to an unimaginable height and sometimes forcing the unexpected closure of these farms. More worrisome is the extensive lack of veterinary support as farmers battle daily to sustain and fend for their livestock At Farmalert, we partner with local animal health stores & professionals who in turn partner with these local farmers in building an inclusive system for animal health and disease prevention. We also foster a peer-to-peer network where access to regular animal health products and veterinary services can be easily gotten and learnings at various levels of farmers’ interaction shared. We make possible easy access to quality inputs such as pet foods, animal vaccines/biologics, veterinary support/on-time extension services, microcredit, and marketing platforms for finished products.

  • 🌍 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 Nigeria’s livestock sector contributes significantly to the economy, accounting for one-third of agricultural GDP. However, its full potential remains untapped due to challenges like inadequate traceability, transparency, and meat inspection. 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞-𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐠𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚, CEO of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲, emphasizes the need for digitization to transform the sector. Leveraging technology can enable the tracking and monitoring of livestock health and movement, ensuring safer food systems and reducing the risks of zoonotic diseases. Adopting digital tools like QR-coded ear tags and centralized systems can eliminate counterfeit certifications, improve food safety, and enhance productivity. Collaborative efforts, including reforms by the Federal Government and partnerships with states like Oyo and the FCT, aim to modernize Nigeria's livestock industry.
