Fuel Cell Components – From Vision to Reality Ensinger is celebrating the collaboration with ZSW [Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW)] for the production of grafitic bipolar plates - 20 years after machining the first parts for fuel cells. It's the start of a partnership that will mark a milestone in the development of zero-emissions technology.   🔹 How It Started: Back in 2004, companies like Ensinger and #ZSW were already paving the way for a clean energy future. The early prototypes of fuel cells showcased a promising technology that could power vehicles with hydrogen, emitting only water vapor. At the time, challenges like cost, weight, and durability were significant barriers to mass adoption. Ensinger contributed by machining end plates for these prototypes using advanced high-performance polymers, demonstrating the potential to replace heavier metal components. This innovation reduced weight and optimised performance for early fuel cell designs.   🔹 Where It’s Going: Today, Ensinger and ZSW continue to drive innovation together. Ensinger now supplies the grafitic thermoplastic bipolar plate for ZSW’s Generic Fuel Cell Stack, an initiative within the research factory for hydrogen and fuel cells (#HyFaB), intensifying their collaboration in this vital component. This stack, part of ZSW’s open development platform, enables flexible, cost-effective solutions for diverse applications, supporting the transition to large-scale fuel cell production.   🔹 Why It Matters: The fuel cell is no longer a niche experiment—it’s a cornerstone of the global transition to zero-emission transportation.
