Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest
Wellness and Fitness Services
Providing Hope and Support to ADHDers through greater Awareness & Acceptance, Accessibility, Achievement and Advocacy
About us
Unlocking ADHD’s mission is to empower ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest. ADHD affects an estimated 5% of the population. Many ADHDers struggle with symptoms causing impaired relationships and underperformance in school, work and life leading to lost potential. Our strategy to address this challenge is through greater Awareness & Acceptance, Accessibility, Achievement and Advocacy. In just 1.5 years since its official launch in October 2021, Unlocking ADHD has become Singapore’s most comprehensive resource for information on ADHD including microsites/videos available in Chinese, Malay and Tamil. In 2023, Unlocking ADHD became a registered charity and social service agency to enable it to meet the gap in addressing the unmet needs of the underserved youths and adults with ADHD in Singapore. We have established an online peer support community of over 2,600 members and launched a foundational workshop for parents to understand and support their children with self management (executive functioning) difficulties. In 2023/2024, Unlocking ADHD plans to deliver services to uplift the ADHD community - Peer support circles, workshops, and coaching can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by ADHD. The Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest team was invited to participate in the 12th Inter-Autonomous Universities Disability Support Officer Networking Session earlier this week. The event was hosted by SMU’s Student Access office. I shared on the topic of “Empowering ADHD Students. In the subsequent breakout sessions, the different groups discussed topics such as initiatives to equip SEN officers to support students with disabilities and SEN needs better, training modules to address the unique needs of SEN students, addressing executive function challenges, transitioning from school to the workforce, peer mentoring and creating an inclusive classroom. I was personally heartened by the interest shown by these access officers who are committed to support students who are struggling to access their learning in university My two takeaways from this session: (1) incorporate outreach to university students about the services of the access office EARLIER on in the touch point eg during orientation and/or recruitment open houses. The access offices can then hold workshops on study skills, note taking, scheduling etc to help students put their best foot forward (2) Explore ADHD peer support groups at the respective campuses. Unlocking ADHD would be happy to discuss further with interested universities 🙏🏻🙏🏻 #unlockingadhd #disabilities #adhdsg #adhdsupport

How can we reframe the way we see parenting, especially parenting neurodivergent kids and young adults? After several conversations with parents, coaches and observing international best practices, the recent article by Mubin Saadat in the Straits Times summed it up - we are missing that element of JOY (and positivity) when we talk about parenting (https://bit.ly/STjoyfamily) We acknowledge that parenting, especially parenting kids who are wired differently, is no walk in the park. One is constantly juggling emotions and expectations at home, school, work and in society. Unlocking ADHD’s community study in 2021 shows that 79% of the 596 respondents experienced the negative impact of ADHD on family relationships. While it is comforting to know that one is not alone in facing parenting challenges, the element of positivity, hope and joy in our children is missing from our conversations. A strengths based perspective looks at our children from the lens of their strengths and the things we love about their character. Check out the free VIA Character Strengths test to identify this (https://lnkd.in/gzYtZx75) Let’s spend the last few days of 2024 identifying our children’s strengths, affirm them and plan small steps to recognise and support them in these area in 2025 - a small shift in our mindset and approach can heal relationships, provide emotional security and help build the resilience to face life’s inevitable ups and downs together 🙏🏻 Areas of challenges can be reframed as areas of improvement to work on as a team and celebrate small wins🙏🏻 #parenting #unlockingadhd #adhdfamilies #adhdsupport #viacharacterstrengths #strengthsapproach #positivepsychology

Thanks for dropping by our office, Kiat Lim . We appreciate the work that you and the better.sg team (Kasia L. and Junze Zheng) did to help with the Unlocking ADHD website and to resolve some technical issues. It is still a work in progress due to our being understaffed, and not a reflection of the goodwill and time from the Better SG volunteers to support us. One of the most heart warming things I have discovered since being in the charity sector the past 3 years is how generous people are with their time and talent ❣️💯 Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest #unlockingadhd #adhdawareness #volunteers #skilledvolunteering #socialimpact

It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Sitting with a room full of students, sharing about ADHD, and seeing their genuine curiosity. A big thank you to Evelyn Chew for the kind invitation and to the students for being so open and engaged—it’s always a privilege to connect with such curious and passionate minds. 🙏🏻 #unlockingadhd #adhdawareness #neurodiversity

It was a great visit to Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) this morning when Evelyn Chew invited me to give a guest lecture for her class on Healthcare Communication and Behavior Change. I enjoyed answering the many insightful questions asked by the students. Opportunities to share the Unlocking ADHD story and the impact that it has made forces me to reflect about how far we have come in three short years amidst a roller coaster of challenges. Yet there is still much to do… so we press on! Grateful for the opportunity to expand our outreach to University students and academicians so that more will understand about ADHD🙏🏻 Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest Ng Minghao Tan Yu Quan Janelle Ng Joshua T. Yesterday, our founder Moonlake Lee, and the Unlocking ADHD team met with Eric Sng and the incredible team at SHINE Children and Youth Services, discussing how we can better support youth aged 12-25 navigating mental health and ADHD challenges. Learning about SHINE impactful work was truly uplifting. Their focus on mood disorders, youth-friendly services, and breaking barriers to support youths aged 14+ to access therapy—is transforming young lives. At Unlocking ADHD, our mission is to empower ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest. Connecting with SHINE reinforces our shared commitment to ensuring that every young person has access to the psychosocial and emotional support they need to thrive. No young person should ever have to face these challenges alone. 💡💪 #UnlockingADHD #MentalHealthSupport #ShineSingapore #YouthEmpowerment #ADHDAwareness #BreakingBarriers #SingaporeCharities #SHINE

Thank you for sharing your personal journey with ADHD. ADHD is something most people have heard of, but don’t fully understand. It presents differently in everyone, especially in girls, which is why it’s often missed. Too often, girls go undiagnosed. ADHD can be overwhelming, not just for those living with it, but also for those trying to figure out how to accommodate and support individuals with ADHD. That’s why the empathy-first approach you shared is so valuable. 🤝 Let’s make the world a kinder place together! 🌍💖 #ADHDAwareness #Neurodiversity #ADHDSupport #Empathy #Inclusion #ADHDFamilies #ADHDEmpowerment #Kindness #ADHDSupport

tldr: great film please watch if you're a parent or have ADHD loved ones and colleagues. Inclusivity is not that complicated it starts with understanding https://lnkd.in/gGFCBrW5 Thanks to Unlocking ADHD - Empowering ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest, I came across this amazing documentary The Disruptors. I felt so seen and cried my way through the film—it’s a great (though maybe slightly optimistic) representation of daily life with ADHD. I probably should have been diagnosed at 5, when I was the only one allowed to yap during quiet work time, or at 11, when I didn’t do my math homework for a whole year. Maybe even at 17, when a teacher asked me if a boy was the reason behind my “you know the concepts but didn’t study” failures. Instead, I fumbled through elite education undiagnosed and only figured it out at 28, thanks to TikTok. Now in the second year of my diagnosis, I’m still figuring things out: from choosing not to medicate to occasionally medicating, deciding to share my diagnosis publicly but not seeking formal accommodations at Columbia. It’s a constant work in progress. But sometimes inclusion doesn’t need to be complicated. I attended a DEIA committee meeting at school on Monday, and hearing neurodiversity initiatives on the agenda was incredible. It reminded me of a meeting in 2019 with Lee Seng Meng, where he asked about my working style. I told him I’m very visual, and I thrive on clear to-dos and deadlines, but I also need space to try. Immediately, he grabbed a piece of rough paper and started penning down tasks for me. That’s literally all it takes: ask someone their working style, share yours, and find what works for both of you. There’s always this debate about whether neurodivergence is just a spectrum and diagnosis is arbitrary. Honestly, I don’t think it matters when it comes to interacting with people. We should all pay attention to what others respond well to and adjust accordingly anyway, known diagnosis or not. Everyone has preferences, strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, it’s about being kind, patient, and empathetic. When we build that respectful and safe culture, the diagnosis doesn’t have to be front and center, we just embrace everyone for whatever quirks they have.

Please share the message below about the BRAVE Study conducted by Institute of Mental Health that will screen children born between 2007-2016 for #adhd #asd #anxiety #depression. Enrollment information and more details of what the BRAVE Study hopes to achieve can be found at the links below. The more families who know about this initiative, the better - as we need to get support to these struggling families. Research has shown that early intervention in neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and ASD can lead to better mental health outcomes. Conversely, not getting intervention in a timely manner leads to increased risk of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and a host of other issues that can impair academic outcomes, career opportunities and affect family relationships, social interactions and much more. #unlockingadhd #adhdsupport #adhdawareness #BRAVESG #mentalhealth #ADHDfamilies
📢 Calling all parents of children and adolescents! Join the BRAVE Study today 🧠✨ The Building Resilience And InterVEntion (BRAVE) Study is a nationwide initiative aimed at understanding and addressing mental health in children and adolescents born between 2007 and 2016. By participating, your child will receive mental health screening and assessment, contributing to crucial research that can help shape the future of mental health care in Singapore. This study focuses on conditions like: ✔️ Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) ✔️ Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) ✔️ Depression ✔️ Anxiety Together, we can work towards better prevention and management of these challenges for our children. Our Director Moonlake shared about “Understanding Neurodiversity in the Workplace," particularly on harnessing the strengths of ADHDers to optimise value and performance. Neurodivergents are truly assets who bring forth their creativity and resourcefulness to different jobscopes. We also gained invaluable insights, such as building inclusive futures, promoting social mobility in the workplace, and breaking barriers for neurodivergents to thrive and succeed. We would like to thank the organising team for their successful effort! Moonlake Lee #SGDEISummit #unlockingadhd #adhdsupport #adhdawareness #Adhdstrengths #ADHDworkplace #ADHDcommunity
