Congratulations to Prof. Dirk Haller for being recognised as one of the world’s most frequently cited scientists! A leading expert in the field of nutrition and immunology, his impactful research has been cited across multiple disciplines and has deepened our understanding of the human gut microbiome in modern societies. As one of the investigators for our #Proteins4Singapore (P4SG) and #Aquacycle research projects at #TUMCREATE, he enhances our understanding of the role of #alternativeproteins in #foodscience. P4SG aims to develop alternative protein sources for urban food production through innovative reverse food engineering while Aquacycle converts fish waste into palatable and nutritive food ingredients. Both projects contribute to Singapore’s #30by30 goals and offer sustainable food production options. Tapping on his expertise in food-microbiome interactions, our team of researchers is characterising the nutritional and functional impacts of soybean, microalgae and fish protein ingredients on the gut microbiome and its metabolic profile of healthy Singaporean and German populations using continuous fermentation systems. Prof. Haller also nurtures the next generation of young food scientists in the MSc study programme 'Sustainable Food' at Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia. We are honoured to work with bright minds like Prof. Haller and look forward to seeing his next scientific achievements! #TopCitedScientist #ScientificExcellence
15 of our scientists, including Anja Rammig, Professor of Land Surface-Atmosphere Interactions, have been recognized in the latest Highly Cited Researchers rankings. Our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Lam Khin Yong for being appointed Honorary Senator of Technical University of Munich (TUM) during the Dies Academicus 2024 ceremony! Prof. Lam is being recognised for his outstanding achievements as an accomplished science manager and his efforts in growing TUM’s presence in Singapore. He has been a valuable advisor and trusted ally of TUM from the start, contributing significantly through his work with #TUMCREATE and Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia. He played a critical role in integrating TUM as one of the founding partners of Singapore's #CREATE initiative. Since then, he has been a staunch supporter of TUMCREATE, promoting pivotal research projects, such as “Electromobility in Megacities” and the “Ultimate Public Transport System”. Prof. Lam has been elevating TUMCREATE’s management team as Co-Chairman of our Governing Board since 2018. He is instrumental in driving several of our achievements with great overview and strategic insight, ensuring our projects align with Singapore’s standards and innovation goals. We’re grateful for Prof Lam’s plentiful contributions and look forward to his continued support in the years to come. #TUMinSingapore ➡️Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gSreXazg ➡️ Watch the academic celebration here: https://lnkd.in/gqm9Paff Photo credit: Andreas Heddergott/TUM

We had the pleasure of hosting the Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dr Sethuraman Panchanathan, and his team during their visit to the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) campus, alongside the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF) with CEO John Lim. Prof. Ulf Schlichtmann kicked off the visit with an introduction to TUM's presence in Singapore, highlighting the synergistic partnership between the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia, and TUMCREATE. Prof. Stefan Guldin provided an overview of the #Proteins4Singapore (P4SG) project, while our #P4SG researchers Nathaniel James Hendrik, Dr. Vanesa Calvo-Baltanás, and Diego Atoche Garay shared insights into ongoing experiments on #VerticalFarming, #Microalgae, and #3Dprinting

On Tuesday, we held our fourth and final Quarterly Research Presentation of 2024. This occasion led us into the programme of #Proteins4Singapore with its broad diversity of topics. Jing L. highlighted her work on a batch #fermentation system and explored the interactions between the gut #microbiome and soybean polyphenols. She currently contributes to #TUMCREATE’s efforts to understand food-microbe-host interactions in Singapore's healthy population. Tillmann Peest is currently working on building a value chain using food-grade Chlorella vulgaris (#microalgae) to address Singapore’s demand for #novelprotein sources. He shared insights on ‘Optimising High-Pressure Homogenisation for Efficient Disruption of Chlorella Vulgaris Cells,’ as part of a biorefinery approach to extract proteins in an economically feasible process. Nathaniel James Hendrik discussed the importance of #rheology as a tool to tailor the printability of soy-protein. The comprehensive insights on 3D-printed constructs are part of Proteins4Singapore’s approach to reverse engineering and “made rheology look fun”! We’re excited to see how these works contribute to shaping the future of #foodsecurity and #sustainablefood in Singapore! #P4SG #3DPrinting #FoodScience

Meaningful discussions and connections took centre stage at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2024, themed "A Connected and Sustainable Energy World." #TUMCREATE Energy and Power Systems Group’s #geothermal research project captured significant interest, highlighting its potential to contribute to Singapore's #sustainableenergy landscape. Rock core samples from the drilling sites were on display at the booth as part of the team's comprehensive investigation into Singapore’s geothermal potential. This research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) and SJ Group focuses on northern Singapore, where elevated shallow subsurface temperatures have been identified. Two deep exploration slimholes were drilled in Admiralty (1.16 km) and Sembawang (1.75 km), revealing promising findings: ✅ High subsurface temperatures, especially in Sembawang, exceed global norms for non-volcanic geology. ✅ Potential applications include green electricity generation, district cooling, and desalination. Read the recently published paper by Tobias Massier, Anurag Chidire and the team to deep-dive into geothermal development across South, Southeast, and East Asia: https://lnkd.in/geACGf-t. It covers the geological aspects, government policies, technological advancements, and socio-economic factors while providing insights into each country's current state and future plans for geothermal energy utilisation. #SIEW2024 #EPSG #CCS #renewables
