Here is a story from one of our featured serviceman: My name is Sher-Shah Madni, I’m 19 years old, originally from Pakistan, but I moved to Singapore when I was just six months old. I grew up studying as an international student at the United World College of South East Asia. Currently, I’m in my second year of National Service as a Combat Medic, serving in the 8th Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment (8SIR). My National Service experience has been challenging, but it has also been more rewarding than I ever expected. To summarize my journey: I began with 9 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) in an enhanced intake on Tekong. Afterwards, I was posted as a Combat Medic and underwent 12 weeks of specialized training at Nee Soon Camp. During this time, I earned the honour of being named the Company's Best Medic for my cohort. Following that, I had the opportunity to work as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for 6 months, as part of the attachment “PROJECT SERVE”, posted to Alexandra Fire Station. After completing my attachment, I was posted to 8SIR, where I am now completing the final 10 months of my service. COVID Throwback One of the initiatives we ‘pivoted’ during COVID was using the web to deliver content for INNER LEADERSHIP | Leading from Within . I stumbled across one of these webinars I did with Jake Aliker from Force and Grace who spent a number of years working with Max Verstappen in Max’s formative years. Did a good job I think 😛. Sorry not another picture of a pint of Guinness or a slap up breakfast. Instead something a little more intellectual and a question. I have been struggling with understanding the US stock markets over the last few years. Having met with many business people, seeing waves of layoffs, massive deficits and frankly a broken political system how does the Market keep rising. My thesis, which I believe the graph above supports, is that the stock market is driven not by interest rates, sentiment or anything else fundamental but by the available Money Supply (my chart I took M3). The press talks Interest Rates (as they do CO2) as it is easier to understand than Money Supply (or Methane). Money Supply is only marginally affected by Interest Rates. The Fed controls it more directly. The surge in last 3 months maybe an anomaly - and if there has been no increase in Money Supply will that mean we are due for a correction or has there been a transfer into NASDAQ stocks from other indices - love to hear people’s views My Ask - is there any good academic research out there on this subject.
