Some time after mid-2022 my team and I were presented with the opportunity to help bring The Doraemon Exhibition outside of Japan for the first time, to Singapore. There was a learning curve for almost everyone involved and, as one of the leanest marketing-tech hybrid agencies in the business, this was one of our biggest challenges in 2022. We also didn’t have months and months of lead time despite the scale. Leveraging every big gun we had — a regional managing team that each has over a decade of experience in marketing, automation, large-scale events and making things happen — we project managed the heck out of this big thing, which would find home at the National Museum of Singapore, with just a few small but strategic systems and road maps in place. The easiest task was perhaps leading regional PR + Marketing, our bread and butter. But how would we build momentum, and build momentum fast, when (a) the exhibition would run for a mere 3 months; (b) Doraemon is, after all, relatively niche outside Japan; and (c) let’s face it, tiny Singapore, let alone a specialist art exhibition in tiny Singapore, was probably not high up in the list of must-see tourist destinations for many when borders had just opened? With our friends at DFW Creative Pte Ltd and local to regional partners, and riding the wave of revenge travelling, we’ve achieved a heartening ~20% tourist visitorship. Additionally, we built and ran ops for the exhibition and retail, F&B and workshop pop-ups; pitched and activated brand partnerships and sponsorships; provided tech consultancy (big thanks to our partners at Klook, who digitalised the central ticketing process in no time, from practically day minus one) — while problem solving on the ground, every day the exhibition showed (it has remained open daily since 5 Nov 2022). Like sustaining a high-key event for over 100 days straight. With a lot of heart and a lot of sweat. Over the past couple of years, my team and I have focused on building MoWin Digital to be unstoppable in such circumstances — we consistently deliver high value within time crunch. And deliver high value beyond just providing end-to-end marketing solutions (any marketing agency/firm can and should be able to *do* marketing). What’s next? This year, we’re devoting ourselves to being a #growth agency that helps businesses AND their people, our customers themselves, grow. Specialising at not-really specialising; big picture people exceeding the small pictures as expert executors AND advisors of our fields. A revamped MOWIN brand, website, socials and case studies coming soon! With less than a week till the end of The Doraemon Exhibition Singapore 2022/23, an end to a some half-year-long commitment and hard work by my lean but tireless team, we can’t wait to embark on our next growth project but, of course, sad to see this one go (for now… 😉).
