At InterContinental Energy, we're pushing the boundaries of renewable energy production and our team is working tirelessly to make renewable hydrogen / ammonia more accessible and competitive. Here's what we're aiming for: • By 2029, we aim to reduce the cost of renewable ammonia to under $650/mt • Phase 1 of our ambitious 50 GW WGEH project is set to kick off in 2029 • We're in the process of applying for government funding support • Environmental approval is being sought to expand the project's scope Our Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) project represents a significant step forward in the energy transition. We're pleased to announce another step forward for the Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) project. The Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has set the level of assessment for WGEH, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable energy production. Key Highlights: ✅The EPA has requested a Public Environmental Review (PER) for the WGEH project, ensuring a robust and transparent assessment process. ✅WGEH is committed to advancing detailed environmental and cultural heritage work, employing a primary avoidance strategy with buffer zones to ensure no impact on sensitive areas. ✅WGEH's Stage 1 will generate up to 6GW of wind and solar power near Eucla, producing around 330,000 tonnes of zero-carbon green hydrogen annually. ✅At full development, WGEH could produce approximately 3.5 Mt of green hydrogen and other hydrogen vectors each year. ✅The project aligns with State and Commonwealth hydrogen strategies and the Australian Government's "Future Made in Australia" initiative. Last week's ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference featured a panel discussion on new energy technology growth, where Alexander Tancock introduced 'Alex's Law' and its potential implications for the nascent hydrogen sector. Some wondered if Alex’s Law will be to new energy what Moore’s Law has been to computer processor speeds.   Alex’s Law is the observation that new energy technologies grow at or just below 0.07% of global energy supply per year, over a sustained period.   The Methane Pioneer delivered the worlds first cargo of LNG from Louisiana to the UK 65 years ago, and today LNG represents just over 3% of global energy supply.  The worlds first civilian nuclear reactors came online around the same time and the nuclear sector now supplies ~4% of the worlds primary energy. Wind and solar are more recent examples.  The world’s first commercial wind and solar farms came online in 1980 and 1982 respectively. And now wind and solar each make up around 2.5% of global energy supply.   If Alex’s Law holds true for hydrogen, then by 2050 we might expect hydrogen vectors to represent almost 2% of global energy supply. #AlexsLaw #ADIPEC #greenhydrogen #energytransition
