  • The End of Season 2 - The Start of Season 3! As you may have noticed, Season 2 has come to a close. Over the course of 10 episodes, released every two weeks, we’ve had the privilege of engaging with inspirational industry leaders, exchanges, project developers, critics, and some of the brightest minds in carbon markets. Season 2 has been unforgettable, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us on this journey. But this is not the end – far from it. Climate change remains one of humanity’s greatest challenges, and we believe in the power of conversations to drive progress. Through thought-provoking discussions, we aim to continue doing our little part to combat climate change and help elevate carbon markets to the prominence they deserve. Get ready; Season 3 is on its way, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. Expect new episodes, inspiring guests, and new projects. We’ve heard the voices of the carbon community, so we’ve traveled to on-the-ground carbon projects to capture their real impact on local ecosystems, communities, and the world. More of that coming soon...👀 Season 3 is coming, and it's coming big. Stay tuned! Rene Velasquez

  • CXP SHORT! 🎥 Patrick Greenfield published an article in The Guardian claiming that the majority of carbon credits are "worthless," arguing they fail to achieve their intended goals of reducing or avoiding emissions. Rene Velasquez, however, strongly disagrees with this viewpoint, suggesting that dismissing these projects as worthless is both misleading and harmful. He acknowledges that some projects may have a discounted impact but insists that labeling them as worthless could deter companies from investing in these initiatives altogether. This withdrawal of support would drive the impact of these projects to zero, resulting in a negative outcome for climate efforts. He advocates for recognizing and valuing the contributions these projects make, even if their full impact is not achieved, to ensure ongoing support and positive climate action. • CXP SHORT! 🎥 Rene Velasquez highlights that avoidance and reduction projects are essential and will continue to be critical, especially as CDR developments remain in the early stages of the technology curve. • CXP SHORT! 🎥 Peter Zaman highlights that currently, voluntary carbon markets are the only means to generate the private funding needed to reach the $1.5 trillion annually required to achieve the 1.5°C target set by the Paris Agreement. Do you agree with this statement, or are there other ways to generate private climate funding beyond voluntary markets? Let us know your thoughts! 👇 Did you miss this episode? • Episode 10 is now live! 👀🎙️ For this episode, we traveled to Kuala Lumpur to visit the Bursa Malaysia Carbon Market Forum 2024. Rene Velasquez sat down with the Head of Carbon Markets at Bursa Malaysia, Dr. Wei-nee Chen, to talk about ongoing carbon market developments in Malaysia and Asia. Bursa Malaysia led the development and implementation of a Malaysian carbon market framework, leading to the launch of the Bursa Carbon Exchange, BCX, in December 2022. With two recent auctions for carbon credits and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), BCX effectively focuses on these two key verticals, enhancing its market offering. Under the leadership of Dr. Wei-nee for Bursa Carbon Market, Bursa Malaysia is taking an active role in fostering regional collaboration. Dr. Wei-nee shares insights on how they intend to work with neighboring countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore to build a unified Asian carbon framework. Join us as we dive into the evolving landscape of carbon markets in Asia and explore how Malaysia is positioning itself at the forefront of this critical transition. • Different Carbon Credits Explained! In our latest episode featuring Peter Zaman, Peter gives a masterclass on a complex topic. He clearly explains the differences between three types of carbon credits using a simple analogy with water: 1. Voluntary carbon credits 2. Voluntary carbon credits that meet CORSIA requirements 3. Paris Agreement credits Watch the full episode to learn more about these different credits, the challenges of the carbon markets, how the markets have evolved, and the role they should play in the fight against climate change. • Episode 9 of season 2 is now live! 🎙️👀 In this episode, Rene Velasquez sits down with Peter Zaman, Partner at HFW, to explore the evolving landscape of carbon markets. We discuss the challenges of implementing the Paris Agreement, the role of voluntary carbon markets in global decarbonization efforts, and the various types of carbon credits, including the differences between voluntary, CORSIA, and Article 6 credits. Peter breaks down these complex topics with clear analogy, providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of how carbon credits differ and how carbon markets contribute to the fight against climate change. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this insightful episode as Peter Zaman delivers a masterclass on the evolution of carbon markets, their practical uses, and the (legal) challenges they face in achieving optimal operation. • Episode 8 is now live! 🚨🎙️ For this episode, we invited Ana Haurie, CEO of Respira International. In collaboration with other organizations, Respira launched the Reduce and Invest Campaign this September, encouraging businesses to balance their carbon emissions by simultaneously reducing emissions and investing in climate solutions through the VCM. Their mission is to promote rapid decarbonization while channeling investments to accelerate global net zero. Companies must take immediate action to account for their emissions today, not just in the future. This approach benefits both the planet and businesses, driving long-term value and leadership in climate responsibility. This episode was recorded before the launch of this new campaign, but it highlights the need for such initiatives. In this episode, Rene Velasquez talks with Ana about Respira, the current state of the VCM, and what is necessary to scale it to its full potential. Enjoy this episode! • 2 weeks ago, Murray Collins provided a spot-on explanation of what is needed to combat climate change. “We must leverage private climate finance by scaling up the most effective method for generating it: carbon markets.” We should learn from the past, improve the current system, and expand it. The 'anti-nature rhetoric' only undermines what we already have and offers no solutions. This episode can still be watched on our YouTube and Spotify channel. A new episode has just been published, featuring Tin Dalida, COO of Wovoka. Check it out!
