Not all trees are the same! At APRIL’s labs, we nurture 200 million seedlings annually, each one carefully chosen for their fast growth and resilience to pests and diseases. As the seedlings grow into robust trees on our plantations, they’re helping us reach our goal of boosting plantation productivity by 50%. Through ongoing #innovation and improvement, we’re cultivating a stronger future for #sustainable agriculture and the environment. #APRIL2030 #ThrivingLandscapes

John Pereira, Deputy Head of Operations at Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER), shares his perspective into the importance of collaboration in conservation efforts. At RER, a pioneering private-led conservation and restoration project on Sumatra's Kampar Peninsula, the guiding principle is clear: conservation is a team sport. Achieving meaningful, lasting restoration of ecologically vital peat swamp forest isn’t just about commitment — it’s about bringing together diverse expertise and resources. Founded over a decade ago by APRIL Group, the team at RER project works tirelessly to restore and conserve Indonesia’s critical #peat swamp ecosystems. With more than 150,000 hectares under its care, RER provides a sanctuary for 893 plant and animal species have been recorded, including 75 listed on the #IUCN Red List, such as the Sumatran tiger, Sunda pangolin, and Bornean river turtle. But success isn’t solely due to the efforts of RER’s dedicated team, it’s also a result of strategic #partnerships with local communities, NGOs, research institutions, and the Indonesian government. Pereira emphasises that the private sector has a crucial role to play in conservation, recognising that true sustainability means integrating biodiversity protection into business operations. Through continuous funding, like APRIL’s US$1 per ton of harvested wood fibre for conservation levy, we ensure ongoing progress and momentum. Ultimately, the project proves that large-scale conservation initiatives are most effective when collaboration drives them forward — with every stakeholder playing a critical part. APRIL Group recently took part in a panel discussion on "Best Practices in Sustainability Reporting: Human Rights Performance," organised by Foundation For International Human Rights Reporting Standards (FIHRRST) and Moores Rowland Indonesia, in Jakarta. Inra Gunawan, Head of Legal Compliance and Human Rights, shared insights into the company's journey in Human Rights Due Diligence, since APRIL launched the Children Welfare Code of Practice in January, which is based on the principle that no child should be left behind. The Code emphasizes the rights of children in health, education, and overall well-being. It’s built around five pillars: health and nutrition, care, education, protection, and welfare, ensuring a comprehensive approach to child rights. Inra also emphasized how APRIL incorporates the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards in its sustainability reports. This framework not only reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to transparency but also demonstrates how APRIL tracks and reports its progress on human rights and sustainability initiatives. #humanrights #humanrightsday #APRIL2030 #inclusiveprogress

On International Human Rights Day, APRIL reaffirms the belief that human rights extend to the youngest members of our community. A Human Rights Impact Assessment revealed that approximately 6,500 children under 18 live on our plantation estates. In response, we launched the Children’s Welfare Code of Practice and Action Plan to prioritise education, protection, and health & nutrition, for every child in our care. In 2023, we introduced two pilot initiatives: • A daycare and early education service for children aged 2 to 6; • A mobile school system, bringing education to children aged 6 to 18 across our estates. By 2027, we aim to integrate these programmes into public schools across all our estates, securing a brighter, fairer future for every child. #HumanRights #EducationForAll #APRIL2030 #InclusiveProgress #HumanRightsDay

APRIL is dedicated to minimising its impact on biodiversity and ecosystems by creating conservation and restoration zones within our concessions. We developed a pioneering production-protection model, with our sustainably managed plantations acting as physical barriers surrounding conservation areas. The plantations also provide robust and consistent funding for conservation management. Since 2020, we’ve invested nearly USD15 million in these initiatives, bringing the total to USD60 million for our conservation efforts. "When we launched our APRIL2030 strategy, we recognised that circularity had to be a key focus for us, in order to ensure the achievement of our 2030 goals. This is why we continue to pursue efforts to improve material and process efficiency, and to reduce waste." Aldo Joson, Deputy Head for Sustainability Operations (Fibre & Mill), APRIL Group, shared insights on APRIL’s approach to the circular economy at the Engagement and Policy Dialogue organized by the UNESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN) and the Indonesian Employers Association (Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO). He also explained how APRIL's approach to circularity is aligned with the Indonesian Government's FOLU - Forestry and Other Land Use - net sink goals. Other speakers on the panel, which was chaired and moderated by Anthony M. Watanabe, Chief Sustainability Officer, Indorama Ventures PCL, included: vanthou chorn, Deputy Director of Department Planning, Statistics, Cooperation & ASEAN Affairs Cambodia; Anbumozhi Venkatachalam, Senior Research Fellow for Innovation, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA); Gabriel Tan, CEO of GUAVA Amenities; and Oliver Chan, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Arthaland. #APRIL2030 #sustainability

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Lucita Jasmin, Sustainability Director at the RGE Group (SG) and April (ID), in São Paulo to discuss some of our environmental projects and sustainability strategies. The meeting, expertly led by the Bracell Sustainability team, included a special field visit where we had the privilege of observing the Southern Muriqui (*Brachyteles arachnoides*), the largest primate in the Americas and one of the most endangered species on the planet. This species inhabits connected fragments of the company’s farms and the Barreiro Rico Ecological Station. Thank you, Lucita, for being so generous in sharing a bit of your journey and insights on the topic with us. It was truly a morning to remember. João and Gabriela, thank you for the invitation and excellent coordination. 💚💙🐒

Protecting nature requires long-term investment in technical, financial, and operational support, yet nature remains significantly underfunded. This gap was a key focus at the recent IUCN Leaders Forum in Geneva, where Lucita Jasmin, Director of Sustainability and External Affairs at APRIL, stressed that businesses are well-positioned to take the lead in nature conservation. For APRIL, investing in nature is essential for long-term business viability. As a resource-based company, APRIL understands that its success is tied to maintaining a healthy, #sustainable environment. APRIL’s approach integrates sustainably managed plantations, protected natural forests, and community land, which provide ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, and revenue opportunities for local communities. APRIL’s 1-for-1 target—preserving and restoring one hectare of forest for every hectare of plantation—is already 80% achieved. To fund this, the company has implemented an internal levy, raising nearly US$15 million last year for conservation efforts. As productivity grows, so will the funding for these projects. APRIL also works with local communities to create land-use plans that balance conservation with sustainable livelihoods. “We’re advocating for a transformation of the business model where nature is actually integrated in the business approach,” she said.
