🇫🇷 𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘: Exploring the Freight Transport Landscape: An Overview from an Intermodal Perspective 🚛 🚆 ⚓ 🔵 France is a cornerstone of European logistics, intersecting four major TEN-T corridors: Atlantic, North Sea-Rhine, Mediterranean, and Rhine-Danube. These strategic routes connect France with neighbouring regions and industries, solidifying its role as a leader in freight transport. ⚪ France counts 97 Combined Transport terminals, 25 CT operators, including UIRR members and partners T3M, NOVATRANS, VIIA, MODALIS Lahaye Global Logistics, DELTA RAIL, The port of Marseille Fos, NAVILAND CARGO, GREENMODAL TRANSPORT two infrastructure managers (SNCF Réseau and LISEA). The country supports intermodal freight transport through initiatives such as Energy Savings Contracts (CEE) which finance modal shift of logistics operations and intermodal assets. 🔴 France’s rail network spans 27,812 km, with Combined Transport accounting for 35% of rail freight performance. Inland waterways also contribute to the intermodal landscape, representing 8% of freight transport on rivers and canals. The base tunnel developed by La Transalpine Lyon-Turin will multiply French intermodal railfreight performance once becoming operational by providing a reliable and efficient large capacity link between #France and #Italy. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 (𝗖𝗧) 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 🚉 Rail Key Figures: 🔹 Network length: 27,812 km (38% single track) 🔹 Gauge: Standard (1,435 mm) 🔹 Electrification: 25 kV AC and 1.5 kV DC (ERTMS coverage at 9%; 8,770 km planned by 2030) 💶 an insight on profitability: https://lnkd.in/eFhuibt9 🚛 Road Key Figures: 🔸 Max permitted gross vehicle weight: 44t 🔸 Road network: 400,192 km 🇫🇷 a shoutout to the French intermodal association Groupement national des Transports Combinés - GNTC, the national peer of UIRR Thanks to the ReMuNet Project and Team SGKV for providing the data! #France #FreightTransport #Railways #Intermodal #SustainableTransport #CombinedTransport #RailFreight Aurélien Barbé Benedicte Colin Delphine André Jean-Claude Brunier Matthieu Lahaye Nicolas Chambon Bernard Meï

🚆 𝗖𝗧 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 #𝟮: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 The latest UIRR UIC Combined Transport Report revealed key trends and insights in Combined Transport, highlighting how rail infrastructure in Europe demonstrates greater efficiency compared to road infrastructure. 💡 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 1️⃣ The European rail network: with over 245,000 km of rail infrastructure, Europe has one of the densest networks in the world. Germany contributes a fifth of this total (47,000 km), making it the largest national rail network, followed by France (31,000 km or 13%). 2️⃣ Top rail freight modal share leaders: Latvia (53%), Lithuania (46%), and Switzerland (34%) lead Europe in rail freight modal share. However, all three countries have experienced a decline since 2013. Latvia and Lithuania were heavily impacted by sanctions against Russia following the Ukraine invasion, while Swiss Transalpine rail freight transit - most of which is Combined Transport - faces challenges from inadequate feeder lines in both Germany and in Italy. 3️⃣ Rail infrastructure share: Bulgaria tops the list with 34% of its transport infrastructure dedicated to rail, followed by Hungary (19%) and Belgium (18%). The European average stands at 15%, indicating a higher efficiency of rail freight per kilometer compared to road transport. 🚀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲❓ The trends in rail freight modal share and infrastructure underscore both the potential and the urgent need for targeted investments. Addressing capacity bottlenecks, improving cross-border rail connectivity, and enhancing infrastructure density are essential to ensure rail freight's competitiveness and resilience. Aligning these efforts with the EU's sustainability goals could drive significant progress towards decarbonising freight logistics. 🌍 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: https://lnkd.in/gBCBxA_g #RailFreight #Sustainability #EuropeanLogistics #InfrastructureEfficiency #EU2030
