📌 Different stakeholder groups face distinct challenges across world regions due to significant gaps in data, research, technology and innovation, which in turn continue to hinder progress towards intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient #freight #transport and #logistics. 💡 The transformations envisioned by the compendium of interventions will necessitate new training and changes in workforce skills, ultimately leading to the creation of new jobs. 📌 Learn more about the Compendium ➡️ https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

📌 The #freight transport sector lacks unified, standardised approaches towards the tracking, reporting and evaluation of its environmental impact which makes it difficult to enable comparison or to assess the scale of its negative impacts. 💡 The provision of adequate information on the environmental footprint of various freight #transport services as well as on the available alternatives empowers consumers and businesses to opt for the most sustainable options. 🔖 Learn more about the Compendium: https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

#COP29, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, was widely dubbed the “Finance COP” for its pivotal role in mobilising financial resources from developed countries to aid developing nations in their transition towards net-zero pathways. This effort largely centred on establishing the “New Collective Quantified Goal” (#NCQG) on climate finance. A strong climate finance outcome at COP29 was widely seen as critical to bridging the investment gap in #transport, while encouraging ambitious transport targets and actions in Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs) 3.0 to be submitted in 2025. Moreover, a new target for climate finance was acknowledged as paramount to sending a clear political signal to operationalise the transition away from fossil fuels, building on the agreement at last year’s UN climate talks. Nonetheless, this year’s climate talks failed to deliver substantive outcomes on critical fronts such as scaling up climate finance, advancing a global goal on adaptation, operationalising the Loss and Damage Fund, and enhancing directives for countries to set ambitious emissions reductions in their NDCs 3.0. We invite you to read: 💡 COP29: A Brutal Reflection of the Need for More Ambitious Climate Action in Transport - Reflections from Maruxa Cardama, Secretary General of SLOCAT https://bit.ly/3OJrDw2 🔎 Analysis of Transport in COP29 Outcomes by the SLOCAT Secretariat Dive into our key takeaways of COP29 outcomes and the transport dimension of the international multi-stakeholder pledges updated or announced at COP29. 📌 #Freight transport and #logistics are characterised by a spatially fragmented location of resources, production and consumption from “source to end user” involving diverse stakeholders which operate in very different regulatory frameworks. 💡 Better integrated planning represents the ‘Avoid’-pillar of the Avoid-Shift-Improve framework, providing a key opportunity to cut emissions and other negative impacts through the reduction or altogether avoidance of #transport. 🔖 Learn more about the Compendium ➡️ https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

📌 Current economics, finance and investments do not adequately support the transformation towards intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient #freight transport and #logistics. 💡 In order for societies to continue enjoying the sector’s important socio-economic benefits, however, urgent reforms will be necessary to existing economics, finance and investments to steer the transformation towards intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient freight #transport and logistics. 🔖 Learn more about the Compendium ➡️ https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

📌 Current #transport policies and measures are insufficient to put transport on a #decarbonisation pathway in line with the 1.5°C target of the #ParisAgreement. 💡 Intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient #freight transport solutions are within reach but require support through ambitious, science-based targets, regulations, policies and standards. 🔖 Learn more about the Compendium ➡️ https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

📌 To translate the vision of the Manifesto for intermodal, low-carbon, efficient and resilient freight transport and logistics into actionable steps, SLOCAT and the Kuehne Climate Center have embarked on the development of a compendium of policy and financing interventions. 💡 This compendium identifies complementary 'best value' policies and investment approaches to deliver quick wins and initiate long-term transformations on #freight #transport and #logistics. 🙌 Leveraging collective intelligence and best practices from stakeholders, it aims to steer global discussions and enable multi-stakeholder actions. 🔖 Learn more about the manifesto ➡️ https://shorturl.at/53KzW 🔖 Explore the compendium now ➡️ https://shorturl.at/YEx7M

🎉 Today is World Sustainable Transport Day, a day when we envision a world where #transport — the veins and arteries of our economies — isn’t just about getting from point A to B, but about enabling access to markets, goods, jobs, education and healthcare in a way that sustains our planet and that is affordable for everyone. 📌 From 1pm CET today, we're convening a discussion with voices from the transport community to exchange insights, recommendations and perspectives, directly informing SLOCAT’s contributions to the ongoing UNDESA consultation. 🔖 Register now and join us soon for a discussion with your transport community peers! ➡️ https://shorturl.at/Up6z6

Energy use in #transport is only set to rise in the upcoming years, as the demand for transport rises. However, renewables only make up 4% of the total energy consumed in transport, as per the Renewables in Energy Demand Module of the REN21 Renewables 2024 Global Status Report #GSR2024. We are at serious risk of a growing dependence on fossil fuels, with the transport sector already responsible for over 20% of global emissions. But decarbonising the sector comes at a cost. While the transport sector currently receives around 29% of climate finance, it faces the largest investment gap of any sector. Clean transport solutions will cost an estimated USD 2.7 trillion annually between now and 2050 - an amount that constitutes seven times the current transport spending. COP29 offers the opportunity to achieve climate action faster, more reliably and more affordably by enabling the investment at scale in energy-efficient and fossil-free forms of land transport. Today at #COP29, we focus on transforming how people and goods move and how #transport systems are powered. This Thematic Day on Urbanisation, Transport, and Tourism began with the launch of the Declaration on Multi-sectoral Actions Pathway (MAP) to Sustainable Cities, closely aligned with our #FossilFreeTransport Call to Action. As the Co-Focal Point for transport sector engagement in the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA), we look forward to seeing you at the Transport Action Event later today! The Avoid/Shift Breakthrough, part of the UN High-Level Champion’s 2030 Climate Solutions framework, will also be launched, advancing transport #decarbonisation. Join us and let’s drive action for a 1.5°C future together!
